Looking for info on Arthur Nehls' military service. I know he was with the 1st Infantry, but is that the same as the 1st Infantry Division? Company M, but I can find no information on a Company M for WWI. Family history places him in Europe where he got gassed by the Germans and lost a portion of lung. I also know Art was Musician 2nd Cl but don't know what that means, did he play a bugle? Was he part of an orchestra somewhere for officers to enjoy? What role did musicians play in the war? So far it looks like I cannot request Art's records as I am not directly related, but a grandchild, though I made an inquiry. Hints, links or information greatly appreciated.
