I am interested in learning more about the Nelans who came from Ireland to the Ottawa valley between 1845 and 1849. A number of them settled in Hagarty County and Brudenell. Some later moved to Sault Ste Maire, Ontario and Saskatchewan shortly after the turn of the century. I would like to find out more about their Irish origins and complete some of the missing family links. I am also interested in the related families, including CAHILL, COSTELLO, CUNNINGHAM, DEVINE, FLANNIGAN, FORAN, GALLAGER, McCOURT, McKIERNAN, MULLEN AND O'BRIEN. Anyone who recognizes any of the following people and would like to share information with me can contact me at email@example.com
David NELAN and his wife both perished (~1849) while on the way to Canada from Ireland. Survivors included their son Michael NELAN (~1805 Ireland). There were other NELANS who settled in the Brudenell area at that time who appear to be from the same family, but I haven't been able to positively identify their relationship to David or son Michael.
Second Generation: Children of David NELAN
Michael NELAN (~1805-1895), wife Bridget CUNNINGHAM and their children crossed from Ireland in ~1849 and settled in the Ottawa valley. Five children perished at sea. There were at least three survivors.

David NELAN (1833 Ireland - 1913 Ontario) and wife Mary COSTELLO (?- before 1901) Who settled in Killaloe and had a large family. David moved to Sault Ste. Marie and lived with his son Michael's family before he died in 1913.
Sara NELAN who married John McKIERNAN and had .
Michael NELAN who married Bridget RYAN and had one son who never married. Michael was farming near Corbiel Ontario in 1901.
Fourth Generation: Children of David NELAN:
Michael David NELAN (1857-1949) married Julia SULLIVAN (1866-1957) and had five children, one of whom was my mother. This family is well documented.
John NELAN (1861-19??) Lived and died in Killaloe. I don't think he was ever married.
Mary NELAN (1864-1944) married James P. DEVINE and had five children. They eventually settled in Sault Ste. Marie with their son Phillip.
Joseph NELAN (1868-1894) Lived and died in Killaloe. Never married.

David NELAN (1877-?). No details.
Catherine NELAN (1879-?) married Thomas Cahill and had five children, David, William, John, Kathleen and Rita.
Other NELAN families:
The following NELANS lived in and around Brudenell and Killaloe and seemed to have close social connections to the above Nelans, judging from available Church records.
David NELAN (1810 Ireland - before 1871) married Margaret CUNNINGHAM (1816 Ireland - 1903) and emigrated to Canada around 1849. Daughter Johanna NELAN (~1850 - ?) married Patrick O'CONNOR. I have no other details. David may possibly be Michael NELAN's brother.
Bridget NELAN (1843 Ireland - 1898) married Edward FORAN (1840 Ontario - after 1901), a farmer, and had eight children, Mary Ann, Edward, Mary, Elizabeth, Bridget Ellen, Mary Ann (2nd ?), Edward, and Margaret Jane. No other details. Bridget is possibly Michael NELAN's daughter.
William NELAN (?-?) married Isebella GALLAGER (~1835 Ireland - after 1871) They had one son, Patrick. No other details.
Michael NELAN (?-?) married Mary FLANNIGAN (or FLANNERY) and had a daughter Mary (1862 - 1884), who married Michael FINUCANE and had a son, Michael Patrick FINUCANE before she died. I have no other details.
Patrick Nelan (?-?) married Nora O'BRIEN and had daughter Mary Ellen NELAN (~1872 -?) who married Thomas Mullen in 1896 and had four children, Mary Theresa, Hanora Geneve, Patrick Joseph Leo, and Bridget Ellen Esther, I have no other details.
