i assume that you are looking for Ellen Nelan the other surnames are not in my research. Two brothers came to Kerry in 1730s for Co Clare John and Thomas. John fathered Nicolas and others. Thomas married Ellen Long. The name Ellen appeared frequently in the tree of Thomas but I see none in that of John. Visit nelan.org and you will see an Ellen that may fit in the tree of Thomas (his great granddaughter). This is the earliest one I see. She would be Nicolas's first cousin twice removed.

I would be very much interested in the information on Nicholas Nelan. He is possibly a close relative of the Ellen Henesy born 2 September 1787 TRALEE
Father WILLIAM HENNESY Mother MARY PRENDIVIL to one of my line, or to the other Ellen Hennessy born in the same time period in Causeway. A family history book of the Church family indicates that there is a close relationaship, but not what it is.
Ellen, b perhaps about 1790 , married Charles Church of Causeway about 1810

I do not have the tree from Ron on his family from Thomas born 1845 that went to Australia. Write Chris and ask permission to share it with me. I have her email if you don't. I have his Thomas direct to John and Mary Dee and furnished him this information. The issue I am dealing with is which brother from Clare, Thomas or John connects to the John who married Mary Dee. My email is fnelan@elp.rr.com

Hi Fred ... The info I have from Ron is on paper and is dated 23 Jan 2003. It starts with John and Mary Dee. I will let you know more in a few days. Because it is on paper, the links are hard to follow.
Regards, Bill.

The John from Clare is a dead end for me everything since that is from Kerry. I like you knew Ron as well as his widow, Chris. I have no connection to Ron from the John and Mary Dee and would appreciate any tie in you can give me. I have the Info on the Australians from Kerry from Ron and his family but haven't gone there yet. Ron and I met first in Sydney in 1997 and then again in Kerry in 1998. I have returned to Kerry several times since and have done extensive work but like so many other things I got busy and put it aside some years back and am now resuming interest.

Hi Fred and Tim ... I'm Bill Maguire and I posted the initial query about the Nelans who came to the Ottawa Valley from Co. Clare. Since that posting, I have developed an extensive genealogy of two Nelan families, including my great grandfather. Both families are probably from the same root family in Ireland, Their descendants are now scattered around North America. I have not been able to connect them with their Irish roots. The Information I have is located as a family tree on Ancestry under the name "Maguire Gonneville." I can connect either of you to this private genealogy, if you wish. I would request that the 20th century portions of this genealogy not be included in public venues.

During my research, I connected with Ron Nelan of Australia, who is a direct descendent of John Nelan and Mary Dee. He also provided me with some interesting background on the family feud which resulted in Nicolas Nelan disowning his Nelan connection. As this is currently on paper, I will scan it over the next few days and post more later. As for the Australian family, I will co9ntact Ron's widow and request her permission to post the early parts of the Australian genealogy, which should complement what you already know.

I am also reaaly interested in knowing if the link between John and the Clare Nealns can be made. It was Ron's opinion that they were connected, but he was not successful in finding the evidence.

Regards ... Bill Maguire

Tim:
My name is Fred Nelan. I have been to Kerry and have done extensive research on the Nelans through the Catholic Church there as well as other sources. I believe that the Nelans from Ottawa Valley are descendents of the Nelans left behind in Co Clare when the two brothers Thomas and John came from Clare to Kerry in the 1730's. Can you help make a connect for me between the sons of that John who came from Clare and fathered the Nicholas you talk about and a John that married Mary Dee in 1785. Nicholas had two brothers James (8 kids) and Patrick (6 kids). The John I am trying to tie in is the beginning of an extensive tree that has a large number of Nelans still living in the area including Christie in Tralee.
Although it is my data someone else I have been communicating with posted it on www.nelan.org and you can refer to it to see what I am looking for. If I can tie in the John I ask about I can add a whole branch to the tree Also If you can help with any more data it is welcomed. There are several inaccuracies in it and it is by no means complete as I am looking for the answer above as well as many other things.

Fred

Hi Sandy,
Fr Nelan gave his House (Sandford House ) and lands to his nephew Thomas O Connor. I do not know why he did not give it to his nephews the Nelans.Thomas O Connor had two sons who qualified as medical doctors,I have a lot of information about these two.Thomas O Connor passed the house and farm to his son also Thomas O Connor, who in turn passed it to his daughter Madge O Connor who was my grandmother. Sandford House was demolished in the 1970s and my father built a much smaller house on the site.
Sandford House -where I was born, was a very big house. It had a large basement and three stories on top.
I have a photograph of it and I will send you a copy If you would like to see it.
Kind Regards,
Tim Leahy.

I'm not sure if anyone would know, but it's worth a shot...

I'm Jessica Nelan, the daughter of Daniel M. Nelan and granddaughter of Cornelius Nelan. Cornelius emigrated from Ireland and later settled in NY and then NJ with his wife, Marion, and 9 children. I'm interested in tracing his history to my family in Ireland, that I know exist, but that I have never met/don't know. Thanks!

Can anyone help me with family history/tree information about descendants or ascendants of the following?

Elsie June Nelan& Harold George Ball, who had a daughter Christine Grace.

As I research my families widely, both for my own family tree purposes and as a gift to friends and their families, I would really appreciate any family tree and relevant research copies from anyone in any country who is researching the NELAN name, or perhaps some leads to already existing websites where this type of information can be found.

If anyone wishes to send me information, either a Gedcom or a file attached to an email would be very welcome. I would be quite happy to send anyone who requests it all the information I have in return. I run Legacy 6 as a genealogy programme on my computer.

Thanks for your assistance, everyone.

I am from the family of Nelan's that lived in Sault Ste Maire. My father's name was James Patrick Nelan, who's Father's name was Daniel (I don't know the middle name) and Mother's name was Zita Mae Gillespie (also from Ireland.)

My understanding is our family line came from Ireland, but I don't know where from.

The only living reletives that I know of are in Sacramento California (Danny) and I think Mary is still alive in New York. (but I'm not sure of the state or if she is still alive.)

I can try to find more information if this is the Nelan line that you are looking for.

Sincerely,

Ken Nelan
