Walter Nell was related to us. He was Chairman of the Express Dairy Co in 1937 and President in 1960. His exwife Susan married Michael Wilding actor. My Father worked with Walter Nell and I have a book called "Express Journey" which is the centenary history of the Express Dairy Co. Walter Nell has writted and signed a message to my father in the book.

You seem to have done a lot of research on the Nell family of Colonial Maryland. Since Virginia is closs by, I was wondering if you have ever come across a Jesse Nell b.1755 Dumfries Virginia? During the Revolutionary War, I found him in the Mobile colony. And after the war, in Charleston Sc where he died in 1823. I can't seem to find his parents.

I'm sorry I don't have the info you are looking for but maybe this will help a bit. My maiden name is Nell and I've done a bit of history and I'm pretty sure your Margaret is from the original Kentucky line. John Nell (1762) moved to Ky. from Maryland and had seven children. His eldest child, Philip had several children, most of whom moved to Illinois. Unfortunately, of all the children, I know least about this line. I'm guessing your Margaret is one of Philips grandchildren but I don't have a Margaret in that era. Philip did have a sister named Margaret however. His male children were named: William, Edmund, Silas, John and Othy. Hope this helps somewhat. William died in Illinois so I would start there. Sangamon Co., Il

I am trying to track my ggrandmother Margaret E. (Nell) Rushing Cathcart. She was born in Arkansas and was married once before marrying my grandpa, Drew A. Cathcart. She had no previous children. Maggie and Drew married on 10/6/1894
in Hardin County, Il. His obit says he married Margaret Hall. Yet her name is listed in Illinois IRAD marriage search as Margaret E. (Nell) Rushing. I can't seem to find her under Nell or Rushing. They lived in New Liberty and Mattoon, Il all their lives. Drew's father was named John Cathcart and was born in Ireland. If anyone has any info on these 2 they would like to share, I would greatly appreciate it.

mary nell was born 1828 in royston (i think)her mothers name was sarah firth from sheffield,george was born 24th march 1802,george and sarah were married at royston church in 1824 23rd december,mary had quite a few siblings,i have got a little further back on the nells side,its my mother in laws maiden name,sorry its took so long only just come across this site.

Parents: Abraham & Catherine (Hess) Nell, both born in PA. In 1888, Henry located in Butte, Montana; 1889, Anaconda. In Nov. 1887, in Denver, Colorado, Henry married Miss May F. Hosford, daughter of Robert & Mabel (Allen) Hosford. Child: Mabel Ione (Mrs. Milton E. Reid).

Thank you for your reply about the Nell family. The earliest record I have is Gotthard Engelhard Nell, died before 1785. He died before his only son's wekking. His son was Johannes ell, born abt. 1753, Biebelnhein, Hessen, Germany, died 20 October 1840, Biebelnheim, Hessen, Germany. Do you have any information prior to this time about the Nell Family?

Looking for descendants of Nell family residing in Ness Co KS in 1919. 1920 federal census shows Leonard Nell, wife Eva and his brother Reinart or Reinard (difficult to read). If correct family - mother pronounced name "Knoll" but recalls they were German - I would be Eva's grandniece. Later children are believed to be Catherine/Katherine, Wilma, and George. I'm estimating Eva (Daniels) Nell birth about 1896.

I have located CA mortuary records for Leonard's brother-in-law who passed in September 1960. Those records together with a re-check of the 1920 Federal census now lead me to conclude that the surname is Noll not Nell.

His name appears on the memorial because he went to the Loxley Methodist Church or was part of a Bible Class.

Hi Phillip, thanks for your reply. I also have answered Phyllis in a separate mail. My line: Johannes NELL (born 22.Feb 1797) in Biebelnheim; his father Johannes NELL; I assume that he is also the father of Andreas NELL that Jeff NELL mentioned on a message board.
Can you confirm? I assume that you are a decendant of Phillip NELL who emigrated 1848 to Rochester.

Are you aware of any Biebelenheim Nell's coming to the Dumfries Virginia area in the mid 1700's? I am trying to find the parents of my Jesse Nell b.1755 in Dumfries.
I read somewhere that a group of Germans ran a mine near Dumfries around the mid 1700's. But, information about them is sparse.

In the George Rogers Clark Papers - May 5, 1781 "William Nell at Logans Station was paid for supplying venison for use of the Indian".
Also, in the Cherokee Agency in Tennessee - June 19, 1803 "William P. Nell has permission to pass to the Lookout Mountain & return in three months".
