Ezekiel Nelson born 1804-father was Samuel Nelson, Mother Ann Parsons



First Generation

1. James NELSON Sr. was born about 1720 in Virginia. He died before 1796 in Virginia.
James married Susannah CORNELIAS on 29 May 1773 in Augusta, Louisa Co., Virginia.
They had the following children:

Second Generation

2. Jospeh NELSON (James) was born 1753 in Augusta/Spotslyvania, Virginia. He died 29 Oct 1845 in Lawrence, Alabama.
During the reign of Charles I of England, it became necessary for theNelson's to leave England. They emigrated to Donegal County, Provinceof Ulster, Northern Ireland. Learning of the opportunites in America,a few of the younger ones decided to emigrate to America. Josepharrived a few years before the Revolutionary War. On board ship heboasted he "could lick any Irishman on board".

In 1790, Joseph Nelson, among others - including Isaac Patton - wentto Boubon Co., KY.
Little else is known of Joseph Nelson except that later he moved toMadison Co., AL. where he died.

In 1841, Alabama made a census of pensioners of the Revolutionary War,and the following data was obtained on Joseph Nelson. "Nelson,Joseph, aged 77, and a resident of Madison Co.; private VirginiaContinental Line; enrolled on January 22, 1833 under Act of Congressof June 7, 1832. Payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance$30."
Jospeh married Lucy TATE, daughter of William TATE and Lucy BULLOCK, on 29 May 1773 in Louisa Co., VA.. Lucy was born 1757 in Louisa Co., Virginia. She died 29 May 1773 in Louisa Co., Virginia.

Third Generation

5. Samuel NELSON (Jospeh, James) was born 1773 in Virginia. He died about 1850 in Montgomery County, Indiana and was buried in Cornstalk Cemetery, Montgomery County, Indiana.
Married, under the legal age, therefore it was necessary for theirparents to give written notes of permission. There is a fine recordof this marriage in the Court House at Paris, KY. With this records,there are 3 "notes", one from Joseph Nelson, father of Samuel; onefrom Ann Patton Parsons, mother of Ann; and another from DavisParsons, uncle of Ann.

Records show that Samuel Nelson served as a private in a company ofmounted volunteers under the command of Capt. Joseph Golvili, Conn'sBattalion, Mounted Kentucky Volunteers, which was called into theservice of the United States by the President in 1794. His servicecommenced July 3, 1794 and ended October 26, 1794. He fought inIndians in Ohio
Samuel married Ann PARSONS, daughter of Abijah PARSONS and Ann PATTON, on 5 Jun 1795 in Bourbon Co., KY. Ann was born 5 Jun 1773 in Bourbon Co., Kentucky. She was buried in Cornstalk Cemetery, Montgomery County, Indiana.

27. Ezekiel NELSON (Samuel, Jospeh, James) was born 1804 in Indiana. He died 26 Dec 1879 in Mercer, Illinois.
Some information indicate that Ezekiel was from Switzerland Co. IN. Ezekiel and Sarah moved from Montgomery Co. IN. to Rock Island Co. IL. Abt. 1837. Sarah’s and Ezekiel’s children were Elizabeth b.1830, Mary Ann b.1833, George W. b.1837, Ezekiel 1846 and Harriet b. 1849 and possibly a Hannah

Moved to Rock Island IL. around 1839

1850 census the family is together and live next door to a possible relative, Joseph NElSON b.Kentucky living w/ wife Mahala and several children

Ezekiel's wife is gone in the 1860 census and the Blackhawk paper 1858 mentions an Ezekiel NELSON who divorces a Mary Ann
Ezekiel married Sarah WILLIAMS, daughter of Rev Richard WILLIAMS, on 6 Apr 1826 in Montgomery County, Indiana. Sarah was born about 1810 in Indiana.
Rev. Richard Williams “who lived to be 105 years old” and the parents of Ezekiel NELSON. Rev. Williams may have pastored a church in Port Byron, IL. His daughter Sarah was b. in Indiana in 1810. She married Ezekiel NELSON abt. 1830. Some information indicate that Ezekiel was from Switzerland Co. IN. Ezekiel and Sarah moved from Montgomery Co. IN. to Rock Island Co. IL. Abt. 1837.
