Thanks for the info.
Actually the Newark Nestors, that is the Patrick and Jane family were settled in Randolph, NJ in the late 1850s where their 11 (give or take 1 or 2)children were born. Patrick was an iron miner.
This is also the time period When and where, Randolph, my GG GP Bridget Nestor and Patrick Russell settles and had their 7 children, Margaret Rose Russell being my G GM. Patrick Russell was also an iron miner in Randolph and was killed in a mine accident in 1882. Some time after that both families removed th Newark.
I never looked or knew about the Randolph Nestors until I received the marriage certificate of Margaret Rose Russell and Raymond Jacobus for August 6, 1890 and saw at the bottome that the 2 witnesses were Sylvestor Nestor and Maria Nestor. I then investigated and found the family in Randolph and Newark and believe that this was more than just coincidence.
This Sylvestor on the marriage Certificate is that same as the Dentist in Newark. They are mostly buried in either Holy Sepulchure or Fairmont I have the notes somwhere, but I was there and saw no heastones. I need to go back and ask for copies of the interment cards so I can find the father Patrick to fix his date of Death to get a death certificate that will hopefully have his father's name so I can verify my hunch.
Unless of course you know his date of death or have his DC or any other documentation on this branch.
NJ Archives did not have BR for Sylvestor nor many of his siblings. The marriage Certificate is on the profile page for Margaret Rose Russell and Raymond Jacobus.
schifty3@optonline.net if you have anything to send or want me to send.
Joe
I can not specifically relate my Nestors with yours. I have been trying to for a long time. But it is my hunch that most Sylvester Nestors derive from the same family in the present-day County of Offaly, the Irish Midlands. They hail from the Lemanaghan and Kilmanagen parishes. There is a Sylvester Neastor in the Griffth's Valuation in Tubber. These same Nestors spill over the near borders of of counties Roscommon and Westmeath.
The unusual name and the Irish naming pattern make this possible. I have three Sylvesters in my family. A Sylvester Neaster even went to Argentina. Google it and you'll see. There is a Sylvester L. Nestor, a dentist, in Newark who married a Eberhardt on November 29, 1916. He is the daughter of a Jane L. Nester on Park Ave in Newark. John, Ella and Marie are his siblings. No father is listed. This is from the 1910 census.

My website is themccannfamily.org. Like I said I can not make a connection between Newark and Jersey City Nestors. My great grandfather Joe Nestor(of JC) married Mary Ann Rock in St. Columba Church, Newark in 1895. Mary Ann Rock was from Vermont. They met at a wedding in Newark where I suspect both Rock and Nestor families attended. There is some connection between the Rocks and Nestors apart for this one, most likely another marraige. The Rocks are from Armagh so the connection does not go back to Ireland. I am sure you are aware that there are Nestors in Sussex county NJ as well. I am sure we are related to those too but can't make a connection.

Sure, especially is you can relate the other Nestor families in Randolph, NJ to Bridget Nestor dau of Sylvestor and wife of Patrick Russell. cross reference my tree if you know how :)
I will be travelling with my Sister and Brother in Law (Frederick Nestor)to Ireland in celebration of their 50th anniversary this Fall. I have an extensive family tree, but the Nestor branch stops at Barthalomew Nestor (BD 1864, DD 2/15/53 in Cleveland, Ohio). I originally was told he was from Mullingar, but my research is pointing to the west side of Ireland. I thought I would take a "shot in the dark" and ask if this name links into any of your family trees. Any help will be appreciated.

Jerry M.

Ths story that I was given by my inlaws - I can't find proof of it anywhere - is that Nestors came to Ireland by way of the Spanish Armada. They had been some of the surviving sailors who made their way to Ireland after the defeat of Spain by the British navy. They had been Greek merchantmen living in Spain who had been pressed into service. The only proof any one has ever offered to this one is that you do not find the Nestor name in Ireland before the Armada.

There are a number of branches of the family tree and we have some contact with our family in the US (links were reestablished at a family reunion a number of years ago).
Also if Linda still comes on line, the area is bElcarra and is about 5 miles when where my parents live! There are still Nestors there and are ditant relations to our family branch! feel free to contact me!

Mary Nestor- Yours could be the Mary Nestor aka? Maria Nestor born to Patrick and Jane Nestor (Neastor..) in Randolph NJ 1863/1869. There are conflicting names & dates in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 census sheets.
You said that she married in 1888 but in the 1900 census in Newark shis is listed with her father and is single so she may have been in between.
My G G Grandmother was Bridget Nestor who married Patrick Russell in Randolph, NJ and had 8 children there. I believe that Bridget Nestor and Patrick Nestor were siblings but I have yet to find "hard" cooberating evidence.
Bridget Nestor Russell's daughter Margaret married my G Grandfather Raymond Jacobus in Newark, NJ in 1892 and the 2 witnesses were Sylvestor and Maria Nestor children of Patrick and Jane Nestor and Maria could be Mary.
Patrick and Jane had abt 10 children and both thr Russells and the Nestors relocated to Newark in the late 1880s after most of the iron mines ran out.
A lot of the Nestors are buried in Fairmont Cemetery in Newark but there are no headstones left.

Re: Sanford Netser

The spelling of the name is correc-Netser. My husband was a descendant of Sanford and Hester. His gr-grandfather was William, one of their sons, who settled in the Iowa county area of Iowa. From one of the census reports it was stated that Sanford was born in MD about 1801. Sanford had two families. The first by Hester and another later in western IL by another wife. He was married 3 times. Do you have any information on the Grimes family history? I'd be happy to share. I have found the Netser name in the Hudson Bay region of Canada and Israel.

The Nestors in Kings County(Offaly) are from the Lemanaghan and Kilmanaghan Parishes near the Westmeath and Roscommon border. There is a Matthew, Patrick and Sylvester Neaster listing in the Griffths Valuation which took place in the 1850's. Those gentlemen are most likely your ancestors. Who is Joseph Patrick? Is he a sibling to Michael. My Nestors have a Jersey City and Newark, Nj connection.
