I don't have information directly related to your Harriet (parents John and Frances) from Yorkshire, England. But . . "my" Nettletons are also from Yorkshire. My gr gr gr granfather, William Nettleton, married Ann Townend (not Townsend), their second child was a son John born circa 1823. (This family is from Little Horton, Bradford, Yorkshire, Enlgand.) John's brother, Joseph b 1834, was my gr gr grandfather.

Please feel free to contact me at paris@yosemite.net

That would be great if there is a connection.

the book Northfield on the Genesee confirms the Ann-Tiffany brother sister link. Steve Krahn had a Tiffany Nettleton web page (now gone- maybe he didn't pay to continue it) with an image of the family bible confirming 30 May 1774 birth in Lyme for Tiffany.

A librarian looked for Nettletons in the Barbour collection
for Lyme and told me there weren't any. Of course, this doesn't mean that Tiffany wasn't born there.

I don't find Tiffany or Ann in the Barbour Collection book for Killingworth Middlesex Co CT. There are a lot of Nettletons listed.

The surname Tiffany is quite prominent in the Lyme area and New London Co CT. I am attracted to the idea that Tiffany's given name was his mother's surname. I am not sure how to get from suspecting to proving.

She already had three children. They relocated to Fresno, California. He died 8Sep1935, possibly in California. She may have moved to Kansas to live with her daughter Phoebe, on the other hand she could have died in Kern County California, where her daughter Georgia Mae lived.
I know little more about him except his father's name may have been John and his mother Lottie.

So am I! I am working on the hypothesis that she is the sister of Tiffany Nettleton , b. 5/30/1774, who marry Mary Griswold b 6/6/1776.

Their son, Josiah *(b 1796)married Sally Fuller, (b 1799) daughter of Daniel Fuller (b. 1769), brother of Timothy S. ( b1775)

Ann and Timothy S. had a son Tiffany Nettleton Fuller (b. 1796) (named after his uncle ??)

so far, no luck at finding Tiffany Nettleton parents, nor Anne's

You find anything since this posting ?

There is a possibility that the unusual name of Tiffany, Ann's brother, is a namesakes coming from a last name, usually on the mother's side as I have seen previously. There are numerous Tiffany-Tifany surnames in Lansingburg area in the 1800s.

I am looking for details of the above ladies - P was E's daughter and they both came from Dublin (E was born c. 1806). P married my gt gt gt grandfather, Charles Briggs and they were living in the Huddersfield area of the UK in 1871. Both P & E must have died before the next census was taken, as Charles Briggs had remarried by then. Any information on why they came across from Ireland etc gratefully received. Many thanks!

I wonder if you could tell me more about their children ; James T., Isabella, & Dessie Nettleton. Dessie married Curtis Grissom, and they lived at Parma, Mo., according to the 1920, & 1930 Census! I have that James married Martha Bell Grissom, and they lived in Clay Co., Arkansas, and Clarkton, Mo.! Curtis & Dessie had several children, one daughter was Ida Belle Grissom, she married Lenon Marlon Rowland. They left Parma, Mo. and moved back to Henderson, Chester Co., Tenn., that is where Lenon's family lived. Please contact, so I'll know you received my reply!
William G. Their daughter Dessie Nettleton married Curtis Grissom, and they had a dau. named Ida Belle Grissom, (probably named after her aunt Ida Isabelle). Curtis & Dessie's dau. Ida Belle Grissom married Lenon Marlon Rowland, and their son was Ronald Dewight Rowland. Ronnie married my sister, and they had a son Brett Andrew Rowland. I'm trying to help him find his Ancestor's. Anything you may share with me about the Grissom, Nettleton, Cato, or Bullard's, would really be appreciate'd very much.
William G. Latham Jr.

Re: Rowland Garrett Nettleton

The info I have on Rowland is that he is the 6th child of Samuel and Elizabeth Nettleton. They are listed in the 1860 Census in Ogle Co, Illinois. I show Samuel and Elizabeth's children as: Henry, Phebe, Clarinda, David, Lucinda, and Rowland. Lucinda and Rowland born in Illinois - all the others born in Canada. I have a little more, but not much. Hope this helps.

That's quite a statement. While I'd love to be able to say that - why do you believe so?
Sandra Nettleton

Re: Amos Nettleton

Reading this list of queries and answers is troublesome. Some of the info seems consistent with what I have and some conflicts with what I have. I have corresponded with aecave and I believe we are in agreement.1. I show Arementa as Armenta Bullard Maxwell married Amos 6 Jun 1846. Children I have: Eliza Jane Charity, Olive E, Amos, MS and Sylvestor - Love to hear about Newton and Nora.
I am also decended from James Nettleton born 15 May 1830 in Canada - I have been searching for his family for some time. I do not have a connection between Aramenta and Louisa Bullard. I do know Louisa's parents were Peter and Lois Bullard. I believe James (our James) is related to Abraham Nettleton who did live in Chatauqua Co, NY and later moved to Richland Co, Ill by 1847but I have not been able to confirm the connection. I have done a great deal of research, as has aecave, but I have NOT found more than one Amos and Aramenta. Amos was in the G98 Illinois Infantry - James (ours) was also in the same infantry during the civil war.
I did hear (from relatives) that James was a baby when brought to the US - that is consisten with his Naturalization dates. Just a family rumor - but the story shared by our family and other distant families, was that James was half Indian and that was why it was difficult to trace parents.
Please let me know if I can be of any help. I have quit a bit of info - but still connecting families.

I don't have much on Eugene Booth Nettleton but what I do have is my records show his parents as: Booth Nettleton born 1825 in Ohio and mother Louisa Maria Smith born about 1825 in Ohio. They were listed in the 1850 census in Oguawha, Henderson Co, Illinois (but you probably had that)
Hope that helps.
Re: OTHER ILLINOIS NETTLETON'S/DESC. OF AMOS NETTLETON

Debby -
I have a little info I can add to your information. I am researching James Nettleton b. 1830 in Canada who was in Illinois at the same time as Amos, enlisted in the army at the same time, and married Armenta's sister Louisa. I've been trying to find James' parents and how do Amos, James, Daniel, and Abraham relate to each other.
Info I have for you: Amos died 8 Jul 1896 and is buried in the old Louisville Cemetary, Clay Co, Illinois. However, Armenta was not buried with him but the birth date matches. I did not have Newton nor Nora but I do have William born 1843 and Josiah born 1845.
your iv. Eliza Charity - born 1848. I was told she died in 1918 and is buried in Salem, Illinois but I haven't confirmed that.
I show that Amos and Aramenta also had a child M S Nettleton born 1859 - any idea who that is?
Good Luck
