TWO DETECTIVES SHOT TO DEATH IN GUN BATTLE

Pawtucket, Rhode Island, June 30 – Two Pawtucket detectives were shot to death today when they invaded a dwelling to arrest a heavily armed former mental patient.

De[. Lt. Thomas Truesdale, 58, and Det. Emil Newberger, 56, were shot as they tried to seize Robert Genereux, 35, who had barricaded himself in a bathroom of his mother’s home near busy Route 1.

Fired Through Door

Police said Genereux fired several shots from a pistol through the bathroom door when the two officers ordered him to surrender. Truesdale was wounded in the lung and Newberg in the stomach. They died at Rhode Island Hospital.

Genereux’s mother, Mrs. Adrienne Mitchell, 65, left the house before the shooting occurred.

Genereux was seized by police who shot their way inot the bathroom where he had barricaded himself in a closet.

Genereux was hospitalized with head wounds apparently inflicted when he was subdued. His condition was not serious.

This is the same birth date as my grandfather who was immediately given to Texas Children's Home and Aid Society and subsequently adopted to the McCutchen Family of Wichita Falls in 1922.

Thank you very much for the info on Harry Newberg. I have since found out that it was actually Harry Jr. who is possibly my birth father. Are you a family member or did you know the family?

in 1900 , 1910 and 1920 your Otto was in New York.
In 1910 he was John? and Erika Lund?as a boarder.

I am trying to help my brother-in-law, Edwin Newberg, research his family. He is Edwin Newberg the 8th. "C" and "W" are common middle initials for the Edwin Newbergs in his line. There is an oral family story that there were 2 NORBERG brothers that came to Massachusetts from Germany. One became a successful dairy farmer and was an influential figure in the community and the other brother went South (possibly to VA) and was hanged for stealing a horse. The remaining brother changed the spelling of the surname to NEWBERG out of embarrasment of the other brother's actions. Who knows? Could be some trueth in there somewhere! Hi all, I am looking for information on a Harry Newberg of the Chicago, IL area. All I know is that he had 7 children, not sure of birth order: Amanda Newberg Bennett, Josephine Newberg Doll, Gertrude Newberg Hubert, Ruth Newberg Halstrom, George Newberg, William Newberg, and Harry Newberg.

I have lost touch with Gertrude Newberg Hubert. Have tried to gain touch with Ruth Newberg Halstrom. As far as I know all the others are deceased.

Josephine Newberg Doll was my grandmother, she was born on 11/1/1905 and died on 1/5/1989.

Any information on Harry and his clan would be most appreciated.

I will post more information as I gather it.

To Eric Newberg - Saw reference to a "Good Site for (info) on Newberg. But could not get it.

Any help on John Newberg (my father born near/at Princeton MN in 1908). His parents were John and Augusta (nee Westfall) and Eric was their father. Understand John and Augusta came from Sweden. Any info appreciated.

Apparently, your family refused to change the spelling of their name. However, you should know that Burja and Buria are the same name. If anyone kept the original spelling that is also fine. It comes from Slovenia. The Russian way to spell the name is Bu(backwards R)a. In Russian the word means storm/tempest. I believe it has a different meaning in Slovenian.

My family comes from Asturias, Spain but we know the origin of the family name is Slovenia.

Looking for any information on Harry J. Newberg (the "Americanized" name of Harald Johannes Nyberg) of Helsingfors, Finland (spelling may be inaccurate).

Harry/Harald was born on 9/27/1871 in Finland. It is believed that his father was also from Finland, but his mother was from Germany (per 1920 Census). Harry died on 7/28/1941 in Chicago, IL. He immigrated in 1886 and was naturalized in 1893.

He was married to a Josephine Roehrig of Chicago, IL. Her parents, Frederick and Josephine Roehrig, were both from Germany.

Harry and Josephine's children were:

William Newberg (b 1896); Amanda Newberg Bennett (b 1900); Harry Newberg Jr. (b 1902); Josephine Newberg Doll( b 1905); Gertrude Newberg Hubert (b 1913); and Ruth Newbeg Hallstrom (b 1919).

Would appreciate any and all information.

I have an otto newberg in my family. He came from Sweden and moved to Nebraska. I don't know much about him after that. I heard he owned a plumbing company. Had 3 kids Helen, Art, and Randy (?) I believe. Are we talking about the same people?

HI,My grandfather immigrated to the U.S. from Sweden in 1891. I am working on our family history. My grandfather homesteaded in the plains just north of the Black Hills in South Dakota. By the way since we know each other a little I will tell you more about me. My name is Eric Charles Newberg, My dad's name is Charles Newberg. My mom's maiden name is Mary Buria. My mom's family knows that back in Yugoslavia they used the name Burja and some distant relatives still use it today
It is said that one confused relative, when travelling to the US didn't make the tail on the letter "J" in "Burja" and since then we became "Buria's" because it looks almost the same.
