Hello Newberry/Newbury Researchers:

A DNA project is being set up for the Newberry surname. If you are interested, please read on:

The first phase of the project will compare the DNA of known Newberry progenitors in New England through provable lineages. The founders are:

1. Thomas Newberry of co. Dorset, England son of Richard Newberye, Gent. and Grace Matthews.
Thomas was born 10 Nov. 1594 and emigrated to New England with his second wife and family in 1630 & 1634. Their sons were Joseph, Benjamin and John. He died in 1635, in Dorchester, MA.

2. Richard Newbury of unknown co. (possibly Dorset) England, parents unknown, emigrated to New England between 1634-1638, but before 1640. He married Sarah Robinson and died in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts in 1685.

3. Walter Newbury of unknown co. England, arrived circa 1670 with his wife Ann Collins. Resided in Rhode Island, d. 1697. His descendants were thought to have spread to the southern states.

Other families will also be studied in the future as they are identified and the project connects them.

If you are interested please reply here. More information will be provided.
