Hello!

I am looking into the Newcomb side of my family tree. I know that my Great Grandfather was Charles E. Newcomb (birth Sept 17, 1889 in Baldwinsville, Onondaga, New York; death April 8, 1959 in Fort Plain, Montgomery, New York). He married Editha Bowman (birth 1897; death 1933), who I have much more information about (parents and grandparents). They had three children (one was my grandfather).

My family did not know much more information about Charles, but from looking at census records (and military records) I see that at one point in time another Charles, Charles Sr. (b. 1865/1861/1859 - ?, d. 1923 in Baldwinsville), was living with Charles and Editha's family. Thus I assume that Charles is actually Charles Jr. and Charles Sr. is his father. So that's one more generation that we didn't have before, although I do not know his wife's name (I cannot find it in census information).

My question is with Charles Sr.'s parents. My family thinks that when they moved over to America, they changed the name from Nunnenkamp/Nunenkamp to Newcomb (which would make sense other Newcombs were in the area and the name is slightly similar). So I'm not sure if Charles Sr. name was different or if his father's was different.

When looking at census records there are two Newcomb families with Charles in them in the area and I am not sure if either is the person I'm looking for. In another record (military, I believe) I found a Charles Newcomb (Charles Sr., I assume), with a father Christian (b. 1818, d. 1878) and mother Charlotte (b. 1799, d. 1879) from Prussia with last name UNKNOWN...this may have been the Nunnenkamp/Nunenkamp, but I'm not positive.

Would anyone have information this particular family?

Thank you!
