His sibling, Ollie, is buried in a family cemetery in Oklahoma with a note that Ortmus, which I figured is Artemus, was living in Kansas City, MO. My family is Delaware Indians. My great grandmother, Eliza Jane (Newcomb) Secondine, her parents were Zachary Taylor and Amanda Bascomb Newcomb. I have John W. Newcomb for the father of Zachary Taylor Newcomb. Please share your Newcomb family with me as I believe that we are related.

My mother has two photos from the 1880's or 1870's. They belonged to Laura Newcomb, Daughter of Orestus Rhett) Newcomb (b1849) and could from his family or Ralph Newcomb(b1821). One is a couple and one has 5 sisters. Does anyone have an interest in seeing the photos to determine possible names?

I have information you requested on JD Newcomb. James Decater Newcomb and Lucy Lee Newcomb are my great great grandparents. You are correct that his father's name was Henry; Henry M. Newcomb (1861-1911) married Mollie Lee, and was a carrier for the Star route (delivery by horse). I have more info on the Newcomb family and some old pictures of James and Lucy. I will try and e-mail you.

John

I am a descendant of Andrew Newcomb through Edmund Crawley Newcomb. It tool a lot a reaserch to prove since in his book, Andrew Newcomb and His Descendants, 1618-1886, 1923, Bethuel Merritt Newcomb list Edmund's wife's name incorrectly, has the wrong year of death and does not list his second wife or children by his second marriage, my great grandfather being one of them. Do you have any of that in your records?

If you need more information there are two books on the Newcombs. I have the one published in 1874.

Angie,

Could be. I'm not related so I cannot say. He was a Civil War veteran who I suspected might have been buried in New Jersey.

Since I posted my original query I have found that Newcomb is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in New York City.

Bob

I caught your response, and noted your reference to Henry Newcomb and his son Alfred Newcomb of Bay City Michigan. I descend from Flora Newcomb, [Alfred's 2nd born] wife of Theodore Anthony Gould. I have done a lot of research and as yet have been unable to connect Alfred to any ship on the Great Lakes. If you have such information I would be most appreciative. I know he was a sailor in 1850, but fom then until his move to Bay city from Walker Michigan, he was a farm laborer working for his father in law James Caudle, then in 1880 in a sawmill, I did not come up with anything that made him a ships captain. I know his grave marker reads Captain Alfred Newcombe, But Captain of what ?

Christian/Charles Sr./Charles Jr. Newcomb/Nunnenkamp (NY)

Hello!

I am looking into the Newcomb side of my family tree. I know that my Great Grandfather was Charles E. Newcomb (birth Sept 17, 1889 in Baldwinsville, Onondaga, New York; death April 8, 1959 in Fort Plain, Montgomery, New York). He married Editha Bowman (birth 1897; death 1933), who I have much more information about (parents and grandparents). They had three children (one was my grandfather).

My family did not know much more information about Charles, but from looking at census records (and military records) I see that at one point in time another Charles, Charles Sr. (b. 1865/1861/1859 - ?, d. 1923 in Baldwinsville), was living with Charles and Editha's family. Thus I assume that Charles is actually Charles Jr. and Charles Sr. is his father. So that's one more generation that we didn't have before, although I do not know his wife's name (I cannot find it in census information).

My question is with Charles Sr.'s parents. My family thinks that when they moved over to America, they changed the name from Nunnenkamp/Nunenkamp to Newcomb (which would make sense other Newcombs were in the area and the name is slightly similar). So I'm not sure if Charles Sr. name was different or if his father's was different.

When looking at census records there are two Newcomb families with Charles in them in the area and I am not sure if either is the person I'm looking for. In another record (military, I believe) I found a Charles Newcomb (Charles Sr., I assume), with a father Christian (b. 1818, d. 1878) and mother Charlotte (b. 1799, d. 1879) from Prussia with last name UNKNOWN...this may have been the Nunnenkamp/Nunenkamp, but I'm not positive.

Would anyone have information this particular family?

Thank you!
