Ephraim K. Newcomer, s/o John Newcomer

John Newcomer was born about 1798. I believe his second wife was Ann, born about 1813. They had the following children: Ann, Susan & Mary. John also had a son, Ephraim K., born 1826. Death certificate lists mother as Annie Kauffman. I believe this was most likely his step-mother. However, with his middle initial being K., is it possible his mother was also a Kauffman and after her death his father, John Newcomer, married a younger sister? Please help. This has been my brick wall for a long time.

Obit: Kenneth C. Newcomer of Missouri (1917-2008)

Kenneth Charles Newcomer
(January 10, 1917 - January 15, 2008)
Kenneth Charles Newcomer left his earthly family on January 15, five days after his 91st birthday. He was born to Jacob and Florence Newcomer on January 10, 1917 in Greentop where he remained until college. Kenneth graduated from Northeast Missouri State College where he belonged to the honorary Blue Key Fraternity and the college a cappella choir. After graduating in 1938, Kenneth took a position with the Marthasville school and continued graduate work at the University of Missouri. While teaching, Kenneth met his future wife Ruth Ferguson. On December 26, 1940 the couple married and embarked on a journey of 66 years of marriage that ended recently with the death of Ruth. The newly married couple moved frequently while Kenneth served in the army during World War II. A brief assignment with the Veteran’s Administration led Kenneth to move his wife and two sons to Springfield in 1951. For a number of years, Kenneth sold securities before he resumed teaching in Springfield. He taught math at Jarrett Junior High for 18 years until his retirement in 1977.
Kenneth engaged in various lifelong interests that included studying financial issues, singing, golfing and traveling. For many years he sang in the choir at University Heights and utilized his finance background to serve on various boards and committees for nearly 50 years. As a chartered member of Twin Oaks Country Club, he enjoyed numerous rounds of golf and various social functions. In retirement Kenneth and Ruth volunteered for several organizations and traveled extensively. Throughout life, Kenneth took great pride and interest in his family. Survivors include sons James and wife La Reva of Springfield and Charles and wife Marilyn of Redmond, WA. Grandchildren include Jeff Newcomer and wife Beth of Fall City, WA; Brad Newcomer and wife Julie of Bellevue, WA; Taisha Newcomer of Independence, MO; Toby Newcomer and wife Pilar Plazas of Atlanta, GA; Tybre Newcomer and wife Cozette Phillips of Rochester, NY. Three great-grandchildren live in the state of Washington: Tyler Newcomer; Caley and Henry Newcomer. Kenneth’s sister, Hazel Baurichter, also survives and lives in Columbia with her husband Cletus.
A service to celebrate the life of Kenneth will be held Saturday, January 19 at 3 p.m. in the chapel at University Heights Baptist Church under the direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Kenneth requested memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army, University Heights Deacon’s Benevolence Fund, Springfield Victory Mission or a similar charity to assist the needy. Final interment of Kenneth Newcomer will be at the Springfield Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.hhlohmeyer.com.
Also you can contact St. John's Lutheran Church, Belleville, Pa., and I believe they have someone who is called an "archivist" who may be willing to check out your request...probably for a donation I don't know for sure about that.

I'm hoping you are still at this email address. It must be two or three years ago we last communicated and late one night I wrote quite a lengthy email telling what I know about Peerie Newcomer and pressed "send" and thought it went out okay. The next day the computer wouldn't start and I bought a new computer. A few days ago I was getting ready to throw the old thing away and for the heck of it plugged it in and it went and somehow I got a screen telling me I had an unsent email to your address but I no longer have a dial up modem and that computer isn't equiped to use DSL. Anyway my sincere apologies.

My gg grandfather Michael Newcomer was born in Ohio in 1802 and he married first a Mary DeHart and they had children named James N. (my ggrandfather), William R., Christopher I. and Jacob W.

Mary died about 1845 and Michael then married Elizabeth Davidson in 1842. By this marriage he fathered Jancy Ann in 1848, Michael Wilkins in 1851, Rison G. in 1852, Peerie in 1863, and Walter (or Walton) in 1864. Somewhere I think I have the marriage license record of Peerie's husband but can't put my hand on it now.

Anyway, in the event you get this there is additional information about the family I will be happy to share with you.

Thanx and apologies - JRN, Midland, TX (newcomer33@hotmail.com)

My Newcomers come from Kanawha County West Va. and married into the Jonas family. At least Susan Elizabeth Newcomer did. Her dad may have been Henry or Martin. This would be early 1800. Could this be connected to your W. Va. Newcomers.?

congrats on finding family again through this board. diane

I am searching for any information on Levi Newcomer. He was the son of Henry & Catherine Stoffer Newcomer. He married Rebecca Longanecker. They had 3 children, Mary, Alice & Susannah. I have found them in the 1870 census in Elkhart County, Indiana but nothing after that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also any information on his two sisters Elizabeth born 1837 and Mary born 1838. Levi and his sisters were all born in Columbiana County, Ohio but moved to Elkhart County with their father and his second wife Dorothy.

Re: Newcomer Brothers Calvin, Austin and George

This tree is connected to my Evans line back in PA. The Lucinda Evans who married George Newcomer, however is (I believe) from Ohio, not Indiana, though I suppose it's possible she lived there some. Both the 1870 and 1900 censuses with her in them show her from OH and the 1900 census (from Green Co., WI) shows her parents from OH.

Lucinda Evans was the daughter of Caleb Evans and Elizabeth Brownell; Caleb was the son of Caleb Evans and Elizabeth Wiggins and the older Caleb was the son of David Evans, Sr. b 1734 who lived in NJ, then Washington Co., PA and finally Pickaway Co., OH. I descend from David by another son, [George] Washington Evans.

I'd be interested in discussing these lines more if anyone wants to either here or in e-mail.
