I was just doing some census research, and stumbled across the record with Ellen's parents (apparently) in the household! I didn't know her parents' names previously. In the 1870 US Census for Wheaton, Chippewa County, Wisconsin, James and Eveline ("Evorena") Newkirk are living with James, Ellen, and Adella ("Adelade") JONES.
I would really like to connect with anyone else descended from James and Eveline, to find more siblings, etc.
Thank you!
Roxanne

Looking for Newkirk surname DNA??

I come from a line of Newkirk in central New York, in the area around Saugerties. My Newkirk relatives and myself can’t trace back to either the Palatine or Dutch lineage. Were at a information wall around the year 1800. So I’m recruit Newkirk dna samples for www.familytreedna.com I have ordered tests for myself, my dad (for his mother’s dna), and a Newkirk uncle. They say it will be a about 8 weeks before I see any results.

I was surprised not to find any surname project for the Newkirk. So I signed up my uncle under the Germany project, as the Dutch line is said to have come to Holland from there. (Joining a project cost less money but the project manager can look at your results). As the Ydna test’s the surname (my uncle, his dad, his Grandfather, his Great Grandfather, his G G Grandfather etc.... and not his grandmother father) there are many descendant of our ancestors that have the same markers as yourself. This is not your dna profile (that the legal profession use) they don’t test for that or genetic problems. You can choose to not have your dna information shared with anyone, “Just yourself” or choose to leave it in there database and to have them notify you of a match which both parties have to agree to meet in email land. Myself and my uncle plan to post it on the respective surname project website’s, my dad will not be sharing with anybody but his family. You can have your dna sample sent back to you after the test or leave it there to be retested at a later date. The lab tech is not allowed to see your name just a test number.

I hope this give’s other the push needed to do some searching for more information on the web.
Hopefully there will soon be a Newkirk surname project to answerer mine or other’s dead ends.

Tim Anderson

An ancestor, JACOB NEWKIRK (born Nov. 24, 1742 in Bergen county NJ, died June 9, 1818, married Fitje Hennion in Bergen) - would have been old enough to fight in the REVOLUTIONARY WAR.

He lived and died in Bergen County.

How do I go about finding that information? Websites don't give enough information to confirm that it was 'my' Jacob Newkirk.

Thanks....

Both were retired schoolteachers, and they had grown children Sarah A., John A. and George H. living with them. Does anyone connect to this family?

Clarence Newkirk, Washington, DC, circa 1922

I am looking for information about Clarence Newkirk, survivor of the Knickerbocker Theater Disaster, January 28, 1922, Washington, DC. According to newspaper accounts and the Memorial Booklet, Clarence Newkirk was badly cut and was treated at Emergency Hospital. He was residing at 1783 Columbia Road, NW, Washington, DC, at the time.

The 1920 census shows him as 21 years old, living with his brother, Frank B. Newkirk and sister-in-law, August, and cousins, John and Frank and his father, Oliver.

I am writing a book about the Knickerbocker Theater Disaster and would like to include photos, survivor stories and family accounts of the disaster. If anyone knows of Clarence Newkirk, or his family, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Many thanks.

I am having a problem with my Newkirk connection. Alida Wemple Buchanan's mother was suppose to have been a Newkirk. I have found her with the name's Hester, Ester and Catherine. Hester and Esther I understand but Catherine throws me. She married Walter Vrooman Wemple on 16 Feb 1804 in Fonda, New York. He was dead by 26 Jan 1808. I know they stayed in the area because their daughter Alida married John Buchanan 9 October 1824. Not in a church but by a Rev. Romeyn. They married in Fonda.

Does anyone have any information about this little family.
I know nothing about John Buchanan. I also lack the proof I need that my Alida Wemple Buchanan's mother was. I know her father was Walter Vrooman Wemple because she named a son Walter Vrooman Wemple Buchanan. I think that is a pretty good indication that he was her father. I know that Walter Vrooman Wemple married Hester Newkirk but do not know where she belongs for sure.
Thank you.

DAUL or DAUL or DOLE or DOLL /family

I noticed on Internet that we have the same last name, and I am currently researching my family history as I am very interested in geneology. I apologize if I am bothering you and understand if you do not wish to reply, but I am writing with the background I have found on the Daull family and would like to know if you have any other information to share.

The Daull family, or at least my branch, originated in the Alsace region of France (near the German border) and particularly the Lower Rhine (Bas-Rhin) region. Towns include Huttendorf, Bossendorf, Dauendorf, Morschwiller le Bas, Uhlwiller, Wittersheim and Zeinheim. From my research I have learned that various members/branches of the family moved on to a number of places:

-- Into Germany around 1789-1792;

-- To the Paris area after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, when Alsace was annexed by Germany;

-- To the United States at a time I have not yet been able to determine.

I can trace my direct lineage back as follows: My name is Jean-Fraçois Daull (born in 1950 in France; I live in Paris); my father is Pierre Daull (born 1925); my grandfather was Alphonse Daull (1899-1965); I have traced another Alphonse Daull (my great-grandfather), who moved away from Alsace around 1870, and going further back a generation I have found Florent Daull and prior to him, François Joseph Daull.

Any further information about the Daull family that you might have (names, dates, places -- past or present -- and any insight into when and why they left Alsace) would be greatly appreciated. To be honest, I do not have a very strong command of English, but an American friend of mine kindly translates for me.

Yours sincerely,

Jean-François Daull

Paris, France

Dr. Adamson Bently Newkirk compiled a book of his geneology. One of the branches included information about Petrus Newkirk. Petrus' daughter married a Washburn. I am trying to gather more information on this union of Newkirk/Washburn. The only thing I know (?) is that Petrus was born in the 1700's, possibly in New York.

Simeon Newkirk

I am looking for any information regarding Simeon H. Newkirk birth and his parents. My wife(Betty Newkirk King) and her twin sister(Bonnie Newkirk Bagwell) are the granddaughters of Simeon. He was married to Augusta Belle Nelson in or around Caseyville, Union Cty, Ky in the mid to late 1800's. They are buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, in Union Cty,Ky. He was a painter/gilder that died in 1902 from a fall from a church steeple. He and Augusta Belle met on a boat on the Mississpi River. They had 7 children John M.Newkirk, Bessie Alma Newkirk, James Albert Newkirk, Maude A. Newkirk Sigler, Claribel Newkirk Syers, Capitola N. Newkirk Melton and Charles Everett Newkirk(my father in-law). We have conflicting birth date year (1835 and 1840) and know nothing of his past prior to meeting Augusta Belle Nelson. Any help that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated! Since my health is failing, please respond to my niece who is taking over the search for her mother and Aunt at bagwellg@chi.osu.edu.
