There is a Texas death certificate for a Joseph Austin Newman online at familysearch.org. with the above name. He was born in Texas Feb 18, 1839. The only identification for his father is H. Newman born in TN. Nothing on the mother. He died in Brownsville, Cameron County Jan 23, 1914, but he was buried at Runge. This is a real puzzle for me. Many of the Joseph Newman family lived in Runge or surrounding area, but I'd like very much to identify this person if anyone knows who he might be. Is he a descendant of Joseph who came to Texas with the "Old 300", or is this just a coincidence?
