Re: Looking for Aunt Hazel

Hazel Newsted McDowell was my great aunt - she was my grandmother's sister. As best as we can find out (and that my mother can remember) is that she and her 6 siblings were born in and around Hart, Michigan (Oceana County). They were:
Ezra T. Newstead, b: 7/27/1887, d: unknown;
Mabel Martha Newstead Miller (my grandmother), b: 8/14/1888, d: 3/28/1975;
L.D. Newstead, b: 5/16/1889, d: 6/29/1961;
Charles E. Newstead, b: about 1893, d: 1957;
Dick Newstead, b: 1893, d: 1914;
James Ernest Newstead, b: about 1899, d: 1939

Hazel Marie was born 7/23/1896 and died in May 1958 in Aberdeen, Grays Harbor County, Washington. She married Robert William McDowell about 1917 in Centralia, Lewis County, Washington.

I don't recognize the names Graphia or Belcher, so I may be missing that particular chunk of family history, but the locations and the brothers match. Also, it appears that there are at least two spellings of the last name - Newsted and Newstead. Hope this helps!

They lived near Yale
in St. Clair Co., Michigan in the 1800s.
They had a farm and a Cheese Factory at one
time.

I have several Newsted relatives in Maidstone, Saskatchewan with connections to family in Michigan. Unfotunatly we have just moved I haven't had time to look for my book. My grandfather was born in Michigan and immergrated to Canada with his family in the 1920's. His father his uncles immirgrated to the US from England. The father's name was John Newsted. Alng with John came some brothers. I do know that the name spelling was confused and you will find Newstead. You may wish to write Marg Newsted, c/o Gordon Newsted in Maidstone, sask. She has quite a history. Take care. Barb
