Newton Heritage
Hello, my name is James E. Newton. I currently live in Baxley, Ga. And have recently become interested in finding my heritage related to the Civil War. Most of my family is gone and I have been given all the information I can obtain from relatives. Heres what I know so far.
My dad was Roy. D. Newton. Born in Concord, Ga, Pike County in 1921. Died in Phenix City, Al. In 1990.
My Grandfather was Lafayette Newton. He is buried in Concord, Ga. He died somewhere around the 1940s I think. I found him in the Pike County census of 1900 and he was then 16 years old, so he would have been born in 1886.
My Great Grandfather was Jasper Newton. He is also buried in Concord, Ga. The Merriweather County, Ga. census of 1880 listed his birth date as 1852. In this census he listed his mother and father as being from Alabama.
I realize that this is not much information to go on but its all I have to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
