My set of Newtons came to Louisiana from Alabama as well and so far, I have had little luck finding any information about them. I have been searching for information about a William Newton who had a son Ernest Joseph in 1876. They lived in Winnfield LA as well as AR. I don't know William's middle name or birthdate or anything. I don't know whom he married. Any help you can offer if there is a connection would be wonderful!
