Rev. Roger Newton of Connecticut Descendants

Classification: Query
Surnames: Newton, Hooker
Descendants of Reverend Roger Newton

I have created a searchable pdf file for use as a reference resource by descendents of Reverend Roger Newton and Mary Hooker Newton of Farmington and Milford, Connecticut. The file is for research by Newtons, not for sale or resale. I will share this information with other Newtons who I can confirm have a connection to Rev. Roger Newton. This is available in searchable pdf from me upon request for those I can determine to be descendents of Roger Newton. If you are interested in receiving this history, send your request and list of early Newton ancestors by e-mail to gorilapsy@gmail.com with dates/places of birth/death to verify your connection to Rev. Roger Newton.

Included in this file:

1. “Search for Reverend Roger Newton: A genealogical quest” which provides my hypothesis on the English origin of Reverend Roger Newton. I am seeking information from other Newton researchers which will answer the questions about where Roger Newton came from in England, and his ancestry. As my own research and that of others provides verification of Roger’s origins, the story of his English origins will be added to my uncle’s work (see below).

2. The Newton Family: The Ancestry and Descendants of David Newton of Milford, Connecticut and Hartford, Vermont (Rev. Roger Newton, CA 1620 – 1683, of Farmington and Milford, Connecticut), compiled by Robert S. Newton, 1984. This detailed history of the Newton family, compiled by my uncle, from Roger Newton down to the present time through David Newton is a valuable resource for Newton’s whose origins trace back to 17th -18th century Connecticut. Although it does not trace all descendants, there is a large body of information on Newtons descended from Roger through this period. Newtons who have “hit a wall” trying to go back further in their family history may find the missing links within this document. It was scanned from the original text into searchable Adobe pdf. Within Adobe Acrobat Reader, searches for specific information may be made using “Edit/Find” and then entering the name or word desired.

3. Many of Roger Newton’s descendants traveled west to New York, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, Oregon and other states as part of the westward migration. As part of my research, I plan to add to my uncles’ work by appending the history and descendants of the Newtons not included in my uncle’s text. Over the long term, this project will trace the spread of the descendants of Roger Newton across the United States.

Readers can help with this project. If you have information about the origins of Reverend Roger Newton and/or have made a connection between your Newton family history and my uncle’s text, please share your information with me by e-mail to gorilapsy@gmail.com.

I hope that you have success in your search for your Newton origins and look forward to any successes that you wish to share with others through this project.

Regards,

Jason R. Newton
