African-American Newtons in NE NC

I am trying to ascertain if there are any African-American Newtons in the Hertford, Northampton, Gates, and Chowan county areas of NC, or in the border areas of VA. Every time I think I find a line, it turns out to be a white family, and the family I am looking for is not white, or Indian, but is definitely African-American Black.
