Classification: Query
In a newspaper clipping telling of Sarah Newton Reyner's birthday celebration, I read:
" . . . Four of her brothers and her brother-in-law served in the union armies, and her youngest brother, Isaac Newton, was killed at Vicksburg the last day of the fighting, and her brother-in-law died in a hospital, and her sister served in the same hospital and died there."
Who were the four brothers who fought in the Civil War? I know of Edward and Isaac, but not of others.
Second question: What about this sister and brother-in-law? All hints would be helpful. It may have been Kansas City but I have nothing to verify that. I believe her name to have been Mary. Searching for a Mary Newton is akin to trying to find a needle in a haystack without definite locations and a married name. Suggestions?
I have little definite on Mary Newton except
-- NEWTON, Mary Christening Gender: Female
Christening Date: 25 Jul 1841 Recorded in: Denton, Lancashire, England
Collection: St Lawrence Father: Thomas Newton Mother: Betty
Source: FHL Film 1550981 Dates: 1836 - 1886
-- She was 3 months old when the 1841 British census was taken
-- She came to the US with her father and family in 1849.
-- 1850 US census, Mary was 10, a student, living with the family in PA
Any help in finding this elusive aunt would be appreciated. Please use my personal email address to respond: lilliemay@mchsi.com.
Thank you. Merrily
