Newtown origins?

I suspect that the Newtown and Newville surnames may have originally been Villeneuve. (French for New Village or New Town and perhaps now: New Ville Newtown??)

The Newvine surname is related to my children's ancestors though a name change similar to Newville. Newvine was originally Villeneuve The surname Newton has also been traced to a few of their Villeneuve ancestors.
