I only know she was born 1879. She would have been my grandfather's Aunt. You have my grandfather listed as Harry Newtown which is correct, however he changed his name to Newton when he moved to Rochester, NY. I will ask my mother is she knows more.

I don't have anything for the names you mention. You should try

http://news.nnyln.net/

Start with the Potsdam papers. Some search tips, try every spelling variation you cab think of including changing o's to a's or c's. Try searching for an address if you have one. Also try searching for other family members names.

Good luck.

newtown?a common name

I thought theyd be a lot more messages.i genuinely thought newtown was a common name.?I also thought that antiquated families moving to a 'new town' took on the surname 'newtown' therefore making it common.

Newtown origins?

I suspect that the Newtown and Newville surnames may have originally been Villeneuve. (French for New Village or New Town and perhaps now: New Ville Newtown??)

The Newvine surname is related to my children's ancestors though a name change similar to Newville. Newvine was originally Villeneuve The surname Newton has also been traced to a few of their Villeneuve ancestors.

For more information:

http://www.geocities.com/villeneuve_connections/

http://www.egroups.com/group/villeneuve_connections
