Here's what I have in my notes
The 1790 Census of Halfmoon, Saratoga Co., NY lists John Novel. THe family consists of one male over 16, two under 16 and five females. The 1800 census of the same place lists John Novell with four sons and four daughters.
It is assumed that John is the first Newville in the US and that he was a French-Canadian farmer from around Quebec where there are records of Newville families, who migrated south along hte Hudson River into New York following hte revolutionary war. Sons were:
John Jr. b. 1778 NY
Abraham b. 1788 Saratoga Co, NY
James b. 1782
Peter b. abt 1795
Jeremiah b. abt 1800
