Neu / Ney / Nye Family Tree in PA

I have in my hands a copy of a book published on the Nye family. "A Small Branch of the Nye Family Tree - Descendents of Johan Adam Neu of PA 1749-1970". ALL of our descendents originated from Germany and settled in the Dauphin &/or Lebannon Counties of PA. The information I have spans over 225 years. If you think this might be part of your branch, reply and I will post what information I might have on your family. Please include FULL names and dates when possible. Johan Adam Neu b.1720 in Germany married twice and had 10 children - Nicholas, William, Mary Elizabeth, Fredrick, John, Mary Christina, Anna Margaret, Peter, Michael and Henry. Each son/daughter then went on to have 10-12 children of their own so you can see that this family is quite large. I hope this helps some of you.
Jennifer Shaffner - Miller - Nye

Ney family

My maiden name is Ney. I was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1943. My father's name was Allan Ney b. 1904 d. 1964. He was one of thirteen children born in Dundee, Scotland. He told me he was descended from Marshall Michel Ney, one of Napoleon's Generals. He was also related to Richard Ney an actor and film star who starred along with Greer Garson in the film "Mrs Minniver". Any information regarding the Ney family would be greatly appreciated as I am only starting my quest and research so I am a real novice. Please E-mail me with any relevant information. thanks.

I know bits and pieces of my family history. My great-grandfather George Ney was born December, 1898 I believe in Hungry. He was married to a Susan Holz also from the same area. He had a sister Katherine and the traveled to the US I believe around the 1920s with her, his brother, and his wife and their children(several did not survive). I think they went through Canada first but ended up in a same area in Michigan(Bad Axe). Does anyone know any info or are related to me? Especially anyone from Europe.

Researching Moses W. Ney b. 2/21/1843 d. 5/4/1924. According to death certificate it gives fathers name as David Ney & mothers name as Catharine Wenrich. David Ney only found until 1840 census & then disappears. By 1850 census Moses is being raised by Christian Ney and is even mentioned in Christian's will. Can anybody shed light on David Ney & who David's parents are? I'd really appreciate any help on this if possible.

Thanks!

Carl, I don't know if he was Catholic or Protestant. Of course, during the revolution, I believe everyone became atheists for a while! I would suspect he was Catholic, but I don't know for sure. Have you heard the rumor that he was not executed but escaped to America? Maybe he came over here and had tons more kids! Where is your wife from? My Neys moved to Kansas City and then St. Louis. Suppposedly from Pomerania or perhaps Bohemia (depending on the source).

Sherry

Photograph of Cal Ney

A cousin of mine recently sent me a copy of an old photograph, probably dating from the 1870s to 1890s, of a mean in suit, vest and white shirt. He looks blue-eyed, and has a beard that reaches down to about the top button of his vest, so I can't tell if he wears a tie or not. The name written on the front and back of the photograph is "Cal Ney". There is no other identification, nor any photographer name on the print.

I am guessing this photo was taken in Dakota Territory, Nebraska, Iowa or Missouri because all other photos in the album this comes from are taken in those states.

I am hoping this rings a bell with someone. "Cal" could be short for "Calvin" or "Caleb" but I haven't been able to find any such Neys on boards.

My great grandparents were Maurice and Antoinette Ney who lived in New Orleans or Louisiana sometime between 1870 and 1925. I can't find any information. Anyone out there? I do have a portrait of Antoinette Ney in Paris in the early 1870's. They had maybe three daughters, one of whom, Elizabeth Pauline Ney was my grandmother. There may have been a sister who moved to Baltimore Maryland. My grandmother was not Elisabet Ney, the sculptress.

I'm looking for information about my ggg grandfather Joseph Ney or Litney. Joseph was born April 12, 1813 in Paris, France. He died Oct 6, 1865. Joseph's last name, according to family legend was originally Ney and was changed to Litney when he emigrated to America. Family legend also says that he was related to Marshall Michel Ney. Does anyone have any info on a Joseph Ney or does anyone know the names of Michel Ney's children, brothers, etc. Or does anyone know anything about any Ney's in France? He married Ida M. Lane on April 20, 1897, in Pennsylvania... They went from Washington, Pa about 1911 to Los Angeles Co, CA.

Had 4 brothers, names unknown. Parents names unknown. I only find Marshall in the 1910 Census and after, but not before --- unless someone else can find him.

Any ideas?
Daniel and Robert Ney of Boyertown, 1903 PA news article

Ref: Town and Country Newspaper
Pennsburg, Montgomery County, PA
August 22, 1903

ENGAGED IN ODD BUSINESS

Daniel and Robert NEY, brothers, of Boyertown, this county, are engaged in
the odd business of catching snakes alive for a circus. They are quite
proficient in this line and during the past season have caught over forty. Last week
they caught a rattlesnake with fifteen rattles. They held it to the ground by
means of a forked stick, then succeed in getting its body into a bag, after
which the reptile was placed in a box covered with a wire screen. It is one of the
largest rattlers caught in this section for years.
I found Joseph Brauer son of Abraham and Maria born July 1820 in Salem Reformed Church in Bethel. The date I have for my ggg grandfather is 1821 so I'm hoping this is him. However I also found a James Jacob Brown(Hopefully mispelled and supposed to br Brower) son of Rebecca and Joseph born March 1847. This would match dates I have. Can anyone help me verify or clarify this info? Thanks, Bev Wolfgang

Charles Ney of Missouri

I am a descendant of Charles Ney, who lived in Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri. As with many Ney descendants, we have the legend in our family that we are related to Marshal Michel Ney. He was born about 1833, possibly in Bohemia. He married Auguste Wolff, born in Pomerania. They came to the US circa 1870. Their children were Charles August, Otto Ulrich (my great-grandfather), Albert Theodore, Hugo Michael, and Lora. Does anyone recognize any of these names? There is a family story that he had a brother in Kansas City, but no one knows the particulars. Thanks.
