I am very interested in learning the maiden name of Magdalena Nyer married to John Nyer about 1776.My wife and I own a decorated blanket chest which is illustrated in the Monroe Fabian book on decorated Pa. German blanket chests. It is obviously a marriage chest since it is decorated with painted figures of a man and woman who,I believe, represent the two different households about to be joined. This chest was purchased from a Nyer family in Weatherly,Penna. It was brought here about 1916 from near Mifflinville,Columbia County,Penna.Because of a later overpaint some of the original lettering was partially obliterated. The man's name-John Nyer is legible and so in the woman's first name-Magdalena.It is my hope to be able to decipher her maiden name which is still under the subsequent overpaint.I am trying to locate the area in which it was originally constructed and decorated. This chest is one of about six known which displays these almost cartoon like images of figures in colonial dress. The date of 1776 would seem to indicate the marriage year of the two families.Any help in finding a marriage record for these two(possibly in Lynn Twp.or Albany Twp.)wpuld be of enormous interest to me.Would be happy to send colour images of the chest to any Nyer Descendants.Bob Zimmerman-303 Second St.,Weatherly,pa.18255-e-mail-zim65riv@hazleton.net
