I am the great grand daughter of Fredrick Nice who was, supposedly, French Canadian but lived and married (three times) in England. I think, however, that the date does not fit in with us as he would have been born in the 1840s. Are you certain of the date?

Shirley, I purchased an 1880s autograph book that has a page signed by Aice M. Prince, Sadie A. F. Prince and Kate A. Nice, Wilfred Fletcher at Upham NB, George N. Prince, Henry Nice in Portland, Oregon, Claude Olmstead, among others. I'll be scanning the book today and will send you a link - hopefully your email address is still good! Mine is heirlooms.reunited@gmail.com. Alice M. Prince apparently took over the autograph book at some point, so the pages that are signed Uncle, such as John Prince in 1881, refer to her mother or grandmother, or another relative.

You may want to amend (edit) your post and include a time-frame, years of birth, death for all the individuals in your post. These don't need to be exact, but a general time-frame is recommended.

Click the "edit" in the upper right corner of your post.

I'm going to be deleting this thread, since it is a cross-post, meaning the same post is on another board. This is a message board no-no. Also, only include surnames in the surname box that are in the body of the post.

I suggest you amend the post on the other board to include birth and death locations of the individuals in your post. Marriage dates and locations are also helpful, nothing need to be exact, but it helps if you provide more specific data.
Genealogy is like real estate, location, location, location.

You're more likely to get assistance if you ask for something specific, not "all". If you post what you already have, where you have searched and what your road block, ie "brick wall" is, it helps others understand better where they might assist you in your search.

I also live on grand island, for 8 years now. Some say the little girl between ages 8-10, is named Tonya. I have also heard that the little girl contacted someone through a ouji board and the little girl said her name wasn't Tonya but Mary Ann Nice. Yet per a historian who lives on grand island, teddy linenfelser, confirms of the mansion and family that lived there and even confirmed the fire however said that no one parrished in a fire on that land. So many stories, u just don't what to believe. The mansion was called the whitehaven sawmill settlement. John & his wife had 10 children. Best thing is to read the article from & believe the historian. To see the historians article go to WWW.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM2NRW

Re: John Nice Grand Island NY

Found this On John Nice-

Biography of Mrs. Mary A. Nice (w/o John)

Nice, Mrs. Mary A., Tonawanda. John Nice was born at Kindenheim-on-the-Rhine, in Bavaria, near the city of Worms, October 13, 1813, and came to the United States in 1836. The family settled in the town of Newstead. In 1844 he married Mary A., daughter of Frederick L. Pfizenmaier. In 1848 he moved to Grand Island, where he passed his life, being recognized as a practical, successful farmer and business man. In 1866 he formed the firm of Nice & Hinkey, which is continued at the present day. Mr. Nice was one of the representative men of the town, progressive and energetic. He ever advanced the best interests of his town and its people, serving as supervisor for four years, and elected to the Assembly in 1873-74. His death, which occurred in 1883, was a loss not only to his family, but to all who knew him. Of him it may be said, "An honest man is the noblest work of God."

Source:
Our County and its people
A descriptive work on Erie County, New York
Edited by: Truman C.
I have a census for 1870 Alice Sharp was 3 yrs. old living in Synder, Blair , Pennsylvania with parents Joseph Sharp and Elizabeth Sharp. siblings Jas J., Ellen, Joseph H, Emma, Alice, Sherdon, and Emeta Mc Clellan. It says she was born in Pa. Then at age 12 she was living with a family by the name of Joseph Hawens and wife Nancy as a boarder. Yes I have been to the cemetry and found the Nice plot. Greenlawn and Mt Rose are together on Jefferson Ave. Extention.

I looked at my tree again. Joseph Nice's 1st wife, Isabelle Morgan, died 15 Sept 1894. Hazel Nice was born 08 July 1894.

Thank you very much for the correction.

I was sent a letter written by Sonny Nice and he wrote that Hazel was buried in the Nice plot at Mt Rose Cemetery. I've never seen the gravestone - have you seen it? I would like to make sure I have the correct info.

BTW, Hazel was my great-grandmother.

Thank you again.

Nice of Souderton, PA who sponsored Russian Mennonite immigrants 1923

When my grandmother Mary Dirks, 17, and her sister Katharina Dirks, 16, immigrated to the U.S. from the Ukraine in 1923, they were sponsored by a "Mr. and Mrs. Nice" of Souderton, Pennsylvania, U.S., who were associated with the Eastern Mennonite Home. Some Internet research I have conducted suggests the full name of Mr. Nice might be John S. or Garret S. Nice. I would really like to find out the answer, as I am reediting my grandmother Mary's memoirs of that time and would like to include Mr. and Mrs. Nice's first names, and also ideally, a photo. More details at http://www.personal.psu.edu/mja11/blogs/family/2009/06/a-nic...
