Well , I ran upon some interesting info this evening, I am hoping that it is fact not fiction,
I have not made a statement since Warren and I were bickering about my Great Grandfather Andrew Jackson Nicely jr.,so I thought it was time to see where we were from.I would read all of your info on where we were from in the United States but I could actually care less about that ,I WANTED TO KNOW from where we originated that is actually more important don't ya think.
Anyway,I found a tidbit about the NICELY'S actually I believe the correct spelling is KNEISLE, seems an Anthony Kneisle and his wife Elizabeth Yeager along with his brothers Jacob and John Kneisle and her brother whatever,Yeager came to the USA in 1730 form Hesse,Darmstadt Germany.
My question???? is why
Finally I have a city and a nation Hesse,Darmstadt Germany, I am Planning a trip to Europe in 2003, and now I willl make a point to see Darmstadt,Germany, so you guys please tell me we are from Germany aren't we because I do have to plan my trip,please someone "Nicely's" please tell me if we are from another country so I can plan my trip.

William Dudley Nicely lived in VA but moved with wife Obita Emma (she went by Emma) Collins out toward MO but stopped in Ohio in May of 1877 and my grandfather was born in Ironston Ohio..
how long they stayed I do not know but went back to VA and HAD A SECOND SON PETER F. Nicely.
Later Leonard ended up working for the railroad and met and Married Anna Gretzel Mallicoat in DeSoto, MO (her family lived just outside the town.. her father John Everett Mallicoat from TN was Town Sheriff and council member who also worked on the railroad. Anna b. 1887 in vineland mo just outside of DeSoto was sixteen when in 1903 she married Leonard. they had 7 children and his father William and mother Emma came out at some time and lived with them when their girls were young.. plus Anna's dad also lived with them for a while. I do not know what became of brother PETER F NICELY and was surprised to know gramppa had one. Any info would help

I'm looking for info regarding my great grandmother, who died when she was only 29 years old. I have very little information about her family, other than what I found on her death certificate: her date of death 4/4/1920 in Clinton County Ohio; parents James Nicely and Caroline Allen. The only other "clues" I have were some names written next to hers in a family bible: Pete and Beryl.
She was married to James C Fleming and had five children: Loraine, Leo (my grandfather), Nadine, Guy, and James.
There was some question about the spelling of the last name, so I'm not even certain about that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking for ANY information on Frances Nicely who married WIlliam Reynolds 1886, 2 children known to this marriage, Nora and Lester. Lester died 1918 in WWI and Nora married John Hamilton Carpenter in 1910 in OK.

I don't even know if I have Frances' name spelled correctly, it sounds like Nighz-lee.

My husband is descendant from a William E. Nicely born to a Mary Nicely in Coal River, WVA in 1867. It is unknown if Nicely is her maiden or married name as she has no husband with her in the 1870 census for Kanawha County. There, in 1870, she is listed with 3 year old William and his brother James. The boys are eventually adopted into two different families; our William became a Clifton. James kept his Nicely name. There is an elder William and family in Parkersburg in 1860, with a Mary about the right age who is no longer in the household in 1870 when the family is listed in the census of Tygart Township. Could this be her birth family? If so, her siblings were William (born in PA), Lydia and her sibs George, Louisa, Perry, William, Ida, and Albert. Maybe there is someone out there descendant from those lines who has heard of this "lost" Mary. We have been looking for her for years! Or maybe someone is descendant from Mary's other son, James, and has a story to tell.

Hi Laura - my g-grandmother married a Nicely- his name was George and he died during the Civil War from dysentery. His parents were Adam and Polly from Rockbridge County (Lexington, VA). George had a sister, Susan who married David V. Agner - who is one of my direct ancestors also. Are any of your Nicely ancestors from Virginia? On our last trip to Lexington in July, I bought 5 new books - birth, marriage and death records. My father was Robert Dale (Leo) Nicely born on June 13, 1910 in Goldsmith, Indiana. His parent's Were Lillie Bell (Preston) and Clemeth Nicely. Lillie was born in October 3, 1887 and passed away in 1973. They had 8 children. Charles in 1903, Iola in 1905, Rheba in 1907, Robert in 1910, Walter in 1911 and Thelma, Delbert, Clemeth Jr I think.

My Great Grandfather William Dudley Nicely was born in VA or West VA abt. 1850's... he died in Marissa ILL, near East St Louis ILL. He married a Emma or Obita, listed on sons birth record, Collins. Their son, my grandfather Leonard was born May 9, 1877. I know they were in West VA as he was about 14 or 16 and had a picture taken at a Studio there. He came back to MO and Married my Grandmother Anna Gretzel Mallicoat (her father was born in Washburn, TN and his mother Mariah Majors Mallicoat is 1/4 to 1/2 Cherokee she lived and died in TN born in 1840 died in 1874 buried on the Dotson cem (her husbands, John Daniel Mallicoat,mother was Margaret Dotson who married Wiliam Crawley Mallicoat and had 10,000 acres on and around Clinch mountain.. Mariah and John Daniel are buried close to them in Punchen Camp.

I have recently started trying to find relatives with the surnames of Shaver or Nicely. Any help or information is greatly appreciated. The little kowledge I have:

My grand-father is John Robert Shaver who married Evelyn Inez Nicely (sp?) in MO. about 1918. Soon after they moved to Idaho. John R. is one of 4 brothers, Everett, Raleigh, and Cloyd. I know very little of John's parent (my great grand parents) except the mothers name of Mary Ann Harris and the fathers name possibly being John as well. We know nothing of the Nicely side of the family except that my great grandfather (Evelyn's father) was possibly named Knute. Evelyn Inez died at 26 years of age in 1926 and John R. in 1964 at 69 years old.
