CHARLES NICHOLLS

I am trying to trace my grandfather CHARLES NICHOLLS born in 1863/4 in the Thornbury,Bristol area of England. He married ADA VEALS of Clifton in the Bristol area. They had 11 children 6 of the children were born in Bristol and then they moved to Deptford,Kent (London now) where they had another 5 children.

In the 1881 census Charles was in a Boys Home on Broad Street Bristol and was working at the Soap Factory also on Broad St. as a soap boiler.

I have been unable to find any birth records for him or his 2nd marriage to a Esther Jacbobs? after Ada died in 1917.

Can anyone help me please. This is brick wall I have been trying to break down for 2 years now. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

I have since been given a copy of information regarding David Nicholls of Kingaroy and his family. I am in the process of entering this information onto my tree, but would appreciate any further assistance from anyone regarding David and his wife Emma Venske, and their ancestors. David's parents came to Australia from England before he was born in 1882. I also discovered that David's first wife was Martha Andrews not Irene (his daughter). Martha died of typhoid in her twenties.

I am looking for information on my Great Grandfather, David Nicholls. He married Emma Bertha Venske (b. 1893), and also a lady named Irene.
I believe Emma and David had about 5 children (one of them my Grandmother, Lorna) and Irene and David had 3 girls.
I believe David may have worked mustering in Queensland, Australia while married to Emma.
I believe David was also a butcher? but this is a memory of a discussion with my grandmother and may be incorrect.

Hi there Fay, I am in Australia.no doubt you are in the u.k. from what I have found so far my family history goes back to Anthony Nicholls 1500..Sedgley staffordshire. there are so many family groups as you will find out as you search.some of the Nicholls clan came to australia in the 1800.regards Bill Nicholls

My Great Grandfather was George B. Nicholls.

He bought land in Caistor Centre, Ontario, Canada around 1857.

His parents, George Nicholls and Sarah Babcock Nicholls lived in Binbrook, Ontario, Canada at that time, coming over from Devonshire England probably 20+ years earlier when George B. was a child.

George's brother John came with his family also, probably at the same time.

George's Father is referred to as William Nicholls in my family tree data.

I'll need some luck tracking him down!

Roger,My Nicholls ancestors emmigrated to the US and settled in the Michigan and Pennsylvania mining areas. The Lawry side of my family emmigrated to New Zealand and are still in nthe area of Timaru. My great grandfathers oldest son Richard did emmigrate to Australia. I have not found any direct info on him as of yet.

I recently recieved this info that you posted. Mary Ann Lawry was my great grand mother. I've never had much info aboout her and my grandfather Andrew Nicholls and don't have any details of their travel to the US. I have very little info on the Lawry family in the US as my father was not very forthcoming about his parents and grandparents other than that they were coal miners in the Scranton PA community.

I have since trawled through and found more info, my Nicholls seem to be from Tipton but other family links do have links to Sedgley to.

I now have
Daniel NICHOLLS, (b. 1876) died aged 34 in 1911,
wife Clara BEASLEY or BEARDSLEY - they had 9 children:
Mary Elizabeth (b1903)
Thomas Ephraim (b. 1904)
Sarah (b. 1906)
Daniel Richard (b. 1907)
Clara (b. 1909)
Rosannah (b.1910)
Lucy L (b 1912) (Mom must have been pregnant when husband died)

Mom, Clara NICHOLLS nee Beasley remarried unknown PAYTON and had 4 more children:

John Payton (b. 1914)
Hannah W Payton (b. 1915)
Alfred Payton (b. 1918)
Ivy Payton (b Q Dec 1924)

Clara PAYTON (previously Nicholls) maidne name Beasley died Q Dec 1924

The birth cert dates and mother maiden names tie all these up, but ideally would order all certificates to confirm but I am confident that it all fits.

I trying to find the family of Rosannah Nicholls (c1910) who married (c1927) Sydney Smith (born c1902 - c1981), and lived in Tipton.

I think I have found her in 1911 census (living 3 Brown Street, Tipton) with her father Daniel Nicholls (born c1877, Bilston)and Mother Clara, I have then gone back through the censuses and tracked Daniel and Clara back - all fine, here si the 1901 census result.

New info is:

Rosannah Nicholls dad (no name known) was a steeplejack who died at work in his 40's(Daniels jobs do not tally), her mom (no name) remarried and went on to have more children, known siblings are Mary, Lucy, Af, plus the half sisters Elizabeth, Clara and another name unknown boy. Rosannahs mom died having her 13th child.

Rosannah married Sydney when she was very young 17/18 as she was 'in service' and lost her job by coming back late to many times so Sydney married her.

I am trying to put something together as a birthday present in a couple of weeks and don't want to give false info so any help/advice would be greatlt appreciated.

HI RICK.I am related to Anthony Nicholls 1584 Sedgley married Mary Hickman ,had a son Richard Nicholls 1615 all the family came from around Sedgley Staffordshire,can you go back any further ,we may be related down the line, I live in Australia,William Nicholls came from England,born 1802 at Redditch ,died in Windsor, Australia 1888 he was th son of Samuel Nicholls. Most of the Nicholls families I Have found came from around Ettingshall ,Coseley Staffordshire England ,Sedgley Staffordshire area ,in any of the registers I have discovered mainly these towns , Regards W. Nicholls

I have found that W.Nicholls was born at abt 1802 at Redditch Worcestershire England His son W.Nicholls married Emily Baldwin 1868 in Windsor N.S.W. SON WAS BORN ABT 1850 IN N.S.W. I am not certain that there is any relationship.

Thanks for your reply, I Have since found that William Nicholls was born abt 1802 Redditch Worcestershire England. also he had a son William Nicholls born abt 1850 at Wilberforce N.S.W. married Emily Baldwin 1868 in Wilberforce N.S.W. My Great Grandfather, whom was named, George Nicholls, was born in Liverpool, England. 1850 sounds about correct. He had two sons, one being my grandfather, James Nichols. James was a Oxford University Graduate and was a Guard at Buckingham Palace. He went to South Africa to set up business, family business I might gather. He came back with a bride, and his family would not accept him due to the fact his bride was of colour. So he came to Canada to live with his bride and had nine children. Anyone with more info about my grandfather would be greatly appreciated.

Wylie Nicholls Rollins and Louise Mayfield

Looking for info on Wylie Hillis Nicholls (or Wiley Homer Rollins) b. 30 Apr 1924 to Byron and Doris Hoover Rollins. Adopted by Nicholls family at abt. age 4 yrs. Lived in the Oakland, CA area until WWII.

Wylie married Louise Mayfield in 1951, Palo Alto, CA. Brides father, Arlie Mayfield of Lake City, Arkansas. Wylie & Louise had one daughter, Sandra Jeanne b. abt. 1952. They divorced while Sandra a young child and Louise remarried "Brown" residing in Redwood City, CA. Wylie disappeared suddenly with a borrowed abandoned automible all that was found. Family searched and as of this date has not found him. I would like to find Sandra and Louise as Wylie was my Uncle.

Stanley Nicholls (born 1891 Plymouth U.K.)

Looking for above who emigrated to U.S.A. in about 1910-14. He married, but had no children. It would appear that his wife died before him, and he died in about 1945 leaving no will. His in-laws, via their solicitor, advertised in British Press for any relatives. The advert was spotted by my father, who identified his brother.
This is family history, but we have no proof of this and I would like to know of anyone out there who could verify this story. My father was Andrew Herbert Nicholls and has since passed on. Their father was J.A. Nicholls and mother was M. Stephens.

Sorry. None of my NICHOLLS as far as I am aware were ever in the USA. Though my search of my GGGF before his arrival here in New Zealand is a MYTH. Born supposedley in England and lived in Australiawith nolife recored tillhis nuptials at age 46 in 1875!!

Hello With the Cornwall/Australia/New Zealand link of Andrew -
Does any one know of two brothers NICHOLLS John C 1830 and a brother James being in Australia emmigrated or born and moving to New Zealand around 1866. James went on to England where he died. John Married at age 46.Died Blenehim Marlborough New Zealand 1905.
Father may have been John and in Australia with them??

My grandmother was Ethel Nicholls, who married an Arthur Dawson.
I beleive her parents were John and Elizabeth I cannot read which road they lived in on the 1901 census, it looks like it was in Handsworth or Birchfield.. some of her siblings were Maud, Joseph , arthur Jack....does any of this ring any bells

To my knowledge we have no family in Austalia, our relative was Clarise Elizabeth Nicholls born around 1900 had a daughter 1924 and another daughter 1930. Both were given up for adoption. kind regards Jill Jordan
