Hi,

I am looking for more information about this couple, from Morgan County, IL. He is the son of Agrippa Nichols and Mildred Osbourne. My family documents have her as Ledocia. A marriage record has her as Leodosia Poland. I have been unable to track down her parentage.

For more info and dates, here's their family group sheet:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/7628363/family/familygroup

Thanks so much for any help,
Vesta

My g-grandfather, Edwin Nichols (born in New Lisbon, Juneau, Wisconsin ab 1858 and d abt 1929), was married to Rose Henderson (b. 1871in England) in Edgerton, Rock, Wisconsin on 27 Jun 1894. His father was George Nichols (b abt 1828 in New York) and Edwin's mother was Catharine Kizer (b abt 1826 in Pennsylvania) . They were married 2 Sep 1857 in Lisbon, Juneau, Wisconsin. I have the G. Nichols family in census records for 1860,1870, and 1880. I have the marriage records for both Edwin and George. Unfortunately, the parents of George and Catharine were not stated. Does anyone have info that might lead me back from George and Catharine?

Thanks!

Hampy Holder Nichols was my grandfather. Ervin Andrew Nichols was my father. Their final resting place is at the Muse Cemetary in Muse, OK. There were three brothers and two sisters in that sibling group. Ervin, Marvin and Orvile. Oza and Hazel. I do not recall any middle names other than my dad. Nor do I remember any last names for the women after they married.

To those of you looking for the Farmington, MI information, I managed to locate a close family acquaintance named Nichols many years ago. The parents are deceased but the daughter believes the papers do belong to her family. If you would like to make contact with her to see the papers or do any further investigation she has given me permission for you to contact her. Her name is Laura and her number is (517) 541-4325

"Can I ask, Have you got an actual birth certificate for Franklyn B Nichols?
If not, how are you so certain that he was born in America, and not in England".

In USA, staring in 1850, census enumerations include birthplace. Each of the 6 census
1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 shows New York as Franklin's (sometimes Frank) birthplace.

"If your Franklyn was born in America, then it should be possible for you to prove his parentage"
What a quaint notion. (vbg)
There is no national registry
There weren't even state wide registries in many states until quite recently (some *still* may not have them)
Even if the specific place (state & municipality) AND the specific date is known it may not be possible.
For instance, the State of Maine did not require Vital Records until 1892.
Before then, some towns kept records others didn't.

"PLEASE PLEASE, let me know if you get the marriage certificate, or any other information."

This was a "wild goose chase"

Franklyn's (Franklin) family was in Parma New York each decade from 1840 to 1930.
Quite likely 1840, reasonably 1830 as well.

In 1850, Franklin was living in a household with several other children named Nichols each born in New York.
The "head of household" (the 'father' perhaps) was John Nichols born in NY in 1811
Listed under John was an adult female named Emeline Nichols, born 1813 in New York.
She is a likely candidate as mother
In 1840 there was also a John Nichols in Parma New York.
An Asa Nichols was listed in Parma New York for the 1830 census.
This man should be considered a good candidate as Franklin's grandfather.

Herb Nichols
I would like to have this information as it does apply to families who could have origins from the state of Virginia. I am going out of town next week for the whole week but could get back to you after that.

Nichols records need adopting

I was “gifted” with a box of genealogy having to do with one of my family lines after a researcher passed away. In the box is also a lot of other family lines that aren’t mine. I’ve sorted them into folders as best I can and here are the surnames and a little about them if I can tell much.

Buttrey – Wilkes Co NC (small file – letters)
Bailey – Topeka Kansas, New Castle, Pa, Youngstown, Ohio (small file, letters)
Loveless – Columbus Ohio, Washington Co., Va (small file, letters)
Wilderich – Henry Wiederick or Wilderick, b Germany 1858, pedigree chart (small file)
Hildebrand – Morgan County, Missouri, John Hildebrand b 1822 in Baden Germany m Victoria Anhauser or Enghauser – (thick file, quite a bit of research)
Trabuc/Trabue – Edward Trabue b 1764, son of John, married Martha Haskins, Jessamine Co., Ky and Va.
King – Joseph King m 1819 to Frances, Lincolnshire England
Nichols – Abner JeffersonNichols b 1837 probably Alabama, poss Missouri or Ark. (one letter only)
Swallow – from England, possible Liverpool (one letter only)
Brown – a few pages of general research
Burton/Cecelia – Philadelphia Pa, research log only
Rouse/Buler – Geoge Rouse and wife and grandfather Daniel Barlow born in Va near Culpepper Court house and moved to Boone Co Ky. (2 pages)

The ones below seem to be grouped together as I've grouped them. I would presume that these files in the groups would go to a researcher as a unit.

Group 1:
Smith – Thomas Leslie Smith, Missouri, born Pittsylvania Co, Va to John Wesley Smith and Sally Saunders Claytor Leftwich
Leftwich – Bedford Co., Va.
Gregory – includes Minter, Adair Co., Ky, other Ky counties, Powhatan Co, Va., John Gregory Rev War Vet, (quite a bit of research)
Minter – Fayette County, Ky, Powhatan Co, Va. (also in the Gregory file)

Group 2:
Bolander – Stephen Bolander b 1756 Lancaster Co Pa m Magaretha Shinkle (small file, letters)
Shinkle – Colorado, South Dakota, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Illinois
Bush – Catherine Bush m Philip Jacob Shinkle in Brush Valley, Center Co., Pa. (one letter only)
McConnell – Arthur in Washington Pa, then to Ky, Ohio and Indiana and then his children and grandchildren to Illinois and Iowa, John McConnell served in War of 1812 from Ohio Militia, Brown Co. Ohio
Luing – intermixed in other files
Watson – two lines, one from Oxford who never left England and one from York and Lincoln who came to the western US in the 1920s (small file, letters)
Wyatt – intermixed in other files
Logan – in the same file as Gregg, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana
Gregg – in the same file a Logan, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana

Group 3 – the familes below are all intermingled in one file – Kittaning, Armstrong Co., Pa, Mercer Co., Pa, various Pa, Va and NC counties, also Missouri,
Hellam – George Curtis Hellam m Mary Ellen Hawk
Peat – Oran Peat b 1899 m Gutherie Faye in Pa
Hawk – Daniel Hawk m Magdalena Bricker
Welton – intermarried with the above families

Group 4
Godley – Quaker, Farquier Co, Va, Georgia, Anderson Co., Tx (much research) – also see Peacock
Peacock – from Nottingham England, never came to America, Elizabeth m George Godley and their dau Sarah came to the us in 1924.

These are yours for the price of postage. First to e-mail me, first to get the file. Let me know which files you want.

Roberta Estes
Sarah Frances Nichols = Sallie F. Maestre in Dallas, TX

Looking to find and connect with any descendants of Sarah Frances Nichols. She went by "Sallie" as far as I can tell. She was the daughter of Edward Henry (E.H.) Nichols and Fannie Mae Johnson. Edward went on to marry Sarah Jane Bryce and have other children but his first was Sallie. I never knew much of her but a great aunt of mine told me about her once I found her in the 1880 census of Wood County, TX. I discovered her death certificate and now know that she is buried at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas, TX. She was born 12 Nov 1875 and died 03 Mar 1952. She was buried with the last name "Maestre" and is shown in the Dallas, TX city directory living with a June McAllister (maybe this was her daughter?) and shown as the widow of Eugene Maestre. Would love to know if anyone out there is related or has anything to add to the story of this woman who was almost lost. Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Mike Nichols
