Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has a Mariah Nichols or Rosette Mariah Nichols or Rosette M Nichols in their trees?

She was born around 1861, in New York state it is believed. She married Jeremiah "Jerry" Colton and they had three children before she died. One of them Amos Parmer Colton was my gg-grandfather.

I've found other Mariahs but not one who seems to be a match. I've got lots of info now on the Colton line she married into, but on Rosette Mariah's side my knowledge stops with her and I know little definite about her.

Please let me know if you might have a match.

Hi,
My name is Jennie Foust. I am researching the Wirth/Worths of Kentucky. My great-grandmother was Barbara Wirth, daughter of Henry Wirth of Louisville.
Henry With had a son Henry who married Emma Brannon and they had a daughter Evelyn. I believe Evelyn married Oscar T. Nichols. Oscar and Evelyn had a son Raymond Nichols. Could this be your husband's family also? Thank you for any help in this matter.
Sincerely,
Jennie Foust
John Jackson NICHOLS Mary E. WILLIFORD from SC

John Jackson NICHOLS,1849-1913, s/o Thomas NICHOLS, was released from Confederate Army after surrender and married Mary E. WILLIFORD, 1846-1917, in Rock Hill, SC. They moved to Bradley, Cleveland County Arkansas and had 12 children, the eldest William Thomas was my ggfather. John Jackson's sister, Julie J. married Thomas TAYLOR in Muscadine, AL, then joined them in AR. Julie and John Jackson's father was reported to be a Thomas NICHOLS and mother a FERGUSON. I need to identify and locate parents. Would anyone know them or even a migration pattern for those in Union, York Counties SC and how they connect to NC, where Thomas was born. Appreciate all info. Will share my info. Mary Ann Nichols
mnichols@ipa.net

Nichols of Connecticut

I'm trying to find out information about my family. It's a bit sketchy. My father (Roy Edward Nichols) was born to Ray Nichols and Mildred (Stauffer) Nichols and resided in Naugatuck, CT. I believe my grandfather was born in Middlebury, CT at the turn of the century. He had many siblings but only know of his sister Mildred. I believe his parents names were Lamont and Mable. I know there was a falling out in the family at some point, and this is why I know so little of the rest of the family. That's all I know - does anyone have any information about this?

Attn: descendants of New England Nichols
Nichols with its spelling variations is a
very common name. There are over 400 Mass
Nichols entries in the Revolutionary War
records of Massachusetts. My records indicate
there were at least 20 Nichols families in
New England by 1640
I have written a several page paper (copywritten)
on "Colonial Nichols of New England). I'm
afraid it is too big to post here (guidelines
anybody?), but I would be glad to share it
with you or anybody else who is interested in
some general historical information on New
England Nichols families.
My 28000+ data base includes approximately
4000 Nichols entries (quite well documented).I
profess NO knowledge of Nichols families
outside of New England (and to a much, much
more limited extent New York). However, if
your Nichols ancestry prior to 1850 has New
England roots, It's likely I have more info
than anybody else in the world.

herb nichols

I've been able to trace Lawson Nichols from the 1840 Marshall Co., AL census to the 1850 Franklin Co., AR. Then recently I found an 1845 and 1846 Benton Co., TN court order to have Lawson, Green, and Simeon Nichols work on a bridge. I would assume that my Lawson moved to Arkansas by way of TN. Does anyone have any info to add?

If you are a descendant of this man, please help me with figuring out his children, I know he married a woman named Amanda Cora Brown and had the following children, Hammett Asberry 1874; Francis O'Bar 1876; Melinda Adline 1878; Callaway Mahew; Charles Wesley 1882; and Harrison 1888, but then I have been told he married before this to a Mary Davis had quite possibly the following children (births estimated) James 1832; Robert 1834; John J 1838; Woodson 1840; Mary J. 1843; Manda E or Maude E. 1845; Tennessee 1846; Martha V. 1847; and Jesse Sep 1849. All of the children of Amanda's were born in Newton Co., AR and the children of Mary were born in TN with the exception of Jesse who was born in or around Franklin Co., AR. Am I complete off track with this man and his 1st wife and children? What happened to his 1st family? Any leads or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance for taking the time to read this.
While looking on roots web I noticed you had some Nichols in Haywood County, North Carolina and thought I would ask you about my family and see if you had any information.

I am trying to nail down the parents of My Great, Great, Great Grandmother.
She was born December 25, 1854 in Haywood County, North Carolina
On her Death Certificate it lists her fathers name as Jim Nichols, mother unknown.
The first true record I have of her is when she shows up in the 1880 Towns County, Census with her Husband James Nichols. January 11, 1878. I have never been able to find a marriage certificate or record anywhere.

A Nichols marrying a Nichols is giving me headaches. I have talked to some of the older in my family who all say she was born there, and they remember her talking about her father Jim.
Jim of course could be short for James or Jimmy. I would be grateful for any help with this. I have her obituary, but it didn't list any brothers or sisters. She died down here in Catoosa County, Georgia on February 1, 1941. She was 86 and may have been the only surviving sibling in her family. Thanks in Advance.
Ernest Nichols

Nichols Family in Iowa - Strawberry Point, Le Mars

I'm looking for descendants of the Nichols Family in Iowa. Names include Frank Nichols who I believe married Bessie Trozona. They lived in Strawberry Pont, IA, and were probably in their 20's in the 1890s. Frank's brother was Jas R. Nichols. Another name I have is Carl Nichols who was a child at the turn of the century. He lived in or near Oelwein, IA, around the 1890s. I also have a John Nichols who lived in Louisville, KY, at the turn of the century.

The Nichols may have been connected with the following family names - Troppman, Dunsmoor, Moyle, Trozona, Puffett, and Sommer.

I have a 1892 letter from my great great grandfather in which he says "In regards my maternal grandparents - Gideon Nichols died Nov 26, 1812 aged 62 years. Abigail Nichols wife, died Nov 30 1812 aged 58 years. Both died from epidemic disease then prevelant in southern part of Lichfield Co. It was called the "New Milford Fever" - it was typhoid pneumonia. I know nothing about the ancestors of either of them"

So I was wondering if anyone has any further information about this Nichols family. They had at least one child, my great grandmother Irene Nichols born about 1779 in Woodbury, CT. She married Phineas Crane, Deacon and lived in Bethlehem, CT.

Ok, have a new request if anyone can help. I have found a William B. Nichols (b:1838), married to a Mary I(?). Children are Arthur and Frederick. Arthur is 8 at the time, which puts him at the right age, and not unlikely that I had the wrong town for his birth.

Does anyone know anything about this line of the Nichols family?

Hester/Esther Nichols and John Prentice

I'm working backwards from my ancestors Esther Prentice and Benadam Gallup. Esther's parents are John Prentice and either Hester or Esther Nichols. The problem is that John married both Hester and Esther, who were first cousins. Hester was the daughter of (I think) John, while Esther was the daughter of (I think) his brother Caleb, two sons of Francis Nichols of Stratford, as I'm sure everyone here knows. So I'm trying to decipher whether I'm descended from Caleb or Isaac, and the references I've read seem to be evenly split, but don't really back anything up one way or another. Does anybody have definite proof one way or another? Thanks very much, Brian

My name is Jeremy Nichols and I have been researching for 9 years now. Though I am only 27 years old, I have made great strides on all of my "branches" EXCEPT my paternal Nichols line!

Self= Jeremy M. Nichols b. 1980 Portland Oregon

Father= Michael L. Nichols b. 1950 Madera California

Grandfather= Pink Ardell Nichols b. 1900 Texas d. 1969 Sacramento, California

Great-Grandfather= William R. Nichols b. abt 1877 Illinois or Indiana d. bet 1921-1929 Texas m. Martha "Mattie" Miller 1899 in Lamar Co., Texas... had 5 kids between 1900-1912 all in Lamar Co., Texas (Pink, Adell, Thelma, Kenneth, C. Sylvester).

In have William and family on 1900, 1910, 1920 Census records all in Lamar Co., Texas and by 1930 I have Mattie and 2 of the kids on a Census record.

This is my "brick wall"... I have other lines going back 17, 18, 19 generations all over the place, but here I am stuck with the one name I would like to find out about most of all!

If anyone at all can help, I'd be very thankful.

God Bless,
Jeremy

Louis Nichols was born about 1867 and came to America from Russia in 1884,1885 or 1890 (depending which census record you believe). He was married to Sarah Rappaport about 1890. About 1915 Louis started a drug store in Philadelphia. Most his children were all druggist/pharmacists. Bernie went to medical school. My wife is a descendant of a Rappaport, I am trying to find a ships record for Sarah Nichols/Rappaport. I think Allen and Ellen might be the same person. Adolf may have been called 'Jay' my father-in-law recalls visiting them in Philadelphia. He says there was a Jay, he never remembers any named Adolf.

Comments / Corrections welcomed. If you are a Cutler from Elkins Park, PA you might be related.
Christopher Nichols 1789-1833 Kent Country, RI

Seeking help with finding the parents of Christopher. I strongly suspect his father to be Benjamin (1770) of William (1733) based on location (Warwick and adjacent East Greenwich RI) as well as family naming patterns. Christopher and wife Patience ?? are buried in the Nichols-Waite Cemetery in Warwick, Kent, RI. I have consulted Arnold (no mention of parents)and all of the records available thru NEHGS without finding a link.

Any other Nichols researchers have a source to share?

NICHOLS, Henry

I'm looking for an ancestor Henry A. NICHOLS who was born in 1853 in Clayton, Boardman Township, Iowa and died in North Dakota in 1937.

He married Martha WEST, born in 1854 in Iowa (I think!) and died in Stutsman County, ND in 1938.

They had one son I know of, Loran NICHOLS.

Anybody else have these people in your line? I would love to know if Martha and Henry had other children.

Jennifer Ranger
Calgary, Canada
