I have two Nicholson grandfathers who were from Choctaw County, AL. My great grandfather was Charles Nicholson, and was apparently there as early as 1850 and there was a C. Nicholson sheriff of the county in 1850. His son, Charles Thomas Nicholson, was my grandfather. He migrated to Indian Territory and Arkansas before finally settling in Jack County, TX. He died in about 1948 in Young County, TX. He had 3 children who survived infancy, one of whom was my father, Charles Louis, who died in 1979 in Odessa, TX. His sister, Fannie Belle married a E.M. Robinson and died in Wichita Falls, TX in about 1995 or 1996. She had 7 children. My uncle, Ashford M. Nicholson, died childless in 1990 in Fort Worth. The elder Nicholson was married to a woman named Mary Jane (maiden name unknown) and they had at least 5 children, and two of those migrated ultimately to Texas. My grandfather married Lucy Elizabeth McKenzie before he came to Texas. There may be some connection between Mary Jane Nicholson and a Chaney family, who was fairly prominent in Choctaw County in the years before the civil war. She may actually have been a widow of Emmanuel B. Chaney before she married Charles Nicholson, but that is uncertain. Anyone with any information about the Nicholsons can contact me at my e-mail address.
