Arthur was born in Ireland, came to Canada sometime where he became a Lieutenant in the New Bunswick Kings Regiment retiring July 24 1795. He died in New Brunswick, Canada.
Hello,

I wondered if anyone has any information regarding my great grandfather James Adam Nicholson, born in 1865 in Craigton near Glasgow and who became a music hall performer in approx. 1889. he used the stage name James Ferguson and had a brother William Nicholson (also stage name Ferguson) and they may have done a double act in the late Victorian period through to the early 1920's - James died in 1923. Any information would be most welcome,
Many thanks, Zoe

Nicholsons of PA, NY, Eng (Calhoun, Dienenger, Deminger, McChesney)

Hello;

I have listed my information many times here to no avail but thought I'd try again.

I am searching for any information on my Ggrandfather John George NICHOLSON b.1874 Newcastle, Northumberland, Eng. d.sometime after 1901 but not sure where. m.Anne Richardson BROWN b.1879 Newcastle, Northumberland, Eng.

John's parents were James Patterson NICHOLSON & Frances HUME both b.Newcastle, Eng.

John George NICHOLSON was born in England but traveled to PA at around 1895 and married Anne Richardson BROWN 1896 in Scranton, PA. Anne who was also born in England had been living in PA since around 1882. I do believe her parents Richard Morris BROWN & Hannah Hodgson RICHARDSON knew John's family but have not been able to figure out the connection. Otherwise, why would John travel all the way to PA to marry Anne and then move back to England. On the ships manifest for John it lists Richard Morris BROWN as a friend and that John was marrying his daughter.

John George NICHOLSON & Anne Richardson BROWN had 3 children. All of which were born in Newcastle, Eng.

John William NICHOLSON b.1896
Richard Morris NICHOLSON b.1898
James Patterson NICHOLSON b.1900 (my grandfather)

Around 1901 after the England census was taken where they were located in Westgate Durham England they are found on a ships manifest going back to PA to Anne's family. Later in 1909 all the boys were placed in a Children's home in Pittsburgh due to the parents death. John William NICHOLSON is located in the 1910 census living in Mahoning, Indiana, PA with a Samuel CALHOUN b.1879 PA, his wife Fannie B CALHOUN b.1882 PA, and daughter Catherine B CALHOUN b.1909 PA.

Richard Morris NICHOLSON is located in the 1910 Census in Plum, Allegheny, Pa with a John DIENENGER or DEMINGER b.1853 Germany, wife Margaret C and their 5 children; Elizabeth, William, Catherine, Emma & Lorena.

James Patterson NICHOLSON is located in the 1910 Census in Unity, Westmoreland, PA with a Steel McCHESNEY b.1860 PA, wife Ellen and their 3 children; Glenn, Catherine & Andrew.

Eventually John, Richard & James all ended up in the Erie or Chemung county of NY.

If you have any information on these NICHOLSONS or any of the other families listed above I would love to hear from you.

Thank you.

The Nicholson Family

The Nicholson Family are all related. They were originally from Bergen in Norway and many Nicholsons are fair haired. Being Vikings, they came and settled in the Isle of Skye by the Clan Macloed of which they became a Sept.(affiliated family) and there is a tartan which is Nicholson. They were of great service to the Macloeds until the time of Bonnie Prince Charlie, when the Scottish Clasns were overcome, many Nicholsons fled to Irelandon account of the fact they were a Catholic Family and resisted efforts at changing. Some did change, became Protestants and went to live on Uist. From Ireland they settled all over. When I was over in Glasgow in the 90s I was told that the Nicholsons were renowned at being singers, dancers and storytellers, all colourful characters. Certainly true of my family. At the potato famine the family left for the colonies, although some went to Wales, where there was food to be had.My own relative, John Nicholson who was a ship's engineer came from County Wexford in Ireland and married an Ellen Nicholson. They settled in Acacia Drive, Newport Mon. John Nicholson (known as the Captain)left his familyof three, Ernest,William and Vera and then jumped ship somewhere and disappeared. I am of the impression it would have been NY where my family seem to believe it was, and some of my Uncles look incredibly like Jack Nicholson the actor. My own large family of Nicholsons live in South Wales in Newport. There seems to be a Cardiff connection too. One Uncle lives in Sacramento and two cousins in Santa Rosa and Sacramento. If anyone wants any more information or has any to give me.If your ancestor suddenly arrived from Britain in around mid 19th century I'd be interested. Not out of financial motive but just to know.

Ford Nicholson + Selma Mielke in Detroit MI area, roughly 1920s-1970s

Anybody have any information on the above family?
I don't know much about Ford at all. Selma was my grandfather's sister, and was born in Detroit, MI April 10, 1897.
They lived primarily in the western and southern ('downriver') suburbs of Detroit from the time they were married through at least the 1960s. The only child I am aware of is a daughter, Jean, born in the early 1930s. Jean's married name is 'Trader' and she lived in Des Plaines, IL (outside of Chicago). I believe she died in the 1980s or 1990s.
Any help will be grestly appreciated. Thanks.

Searching for information on NICHOLSON families in Chesterfield and Marlboro Counties of South Carolina in 1800 on. Daniel, John, and Nickolas seem to disappear from Chesterfield County by 1810. My Christian (female) NICHOLSON was born about 1803, and married William DAVIS of Marlboro Co, about 1820. There was a John NICHOLSON of Marlboro Co in 1810, but he appears to have left there by 1820.

Would like to find parents and sibs of Christian NICHOLSON born about 1830. She may be a daughter of John, and may have a brother named John.

Any NICHOLSON experts out there? Thanks so much -

Tami

She was born in Woods Harbour and the daughter of William Devine.I am completing a history of the Devines in Nova Scotia and would appreciate contact with any her her descendents.

My records show that at least
three of the children ended up in Texas with their own
families so I assume the Malachi moved his family
to Texas. I would appreciate any information
anyone can give me.
Thanks
Sue Stewart

Indiana Nicholson's

I found my G. Grandfather Elias Nicholson living with a family member as a boarder, in the 1880 census. The family member was Hiram Nicholson and I traced him back to his father Martin on back to his father Samuel. And I think Martin is my GG Grandfather's brother. My Nicholsons started out in North Carolina some went to Union, Wells, Indiana, some went to Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. William Nicholson married Elizabeth Unknown and this is my brick wall. Not much is known about William but I found a William and Elizabeth in Indiana. Any info anyone can share would be great............ beebea1@earthlink.net
Evelyn

Does anyone know of a Nicholson-Bankson connection in the 1790's from Baltimore or anywhere in Maryland? My ancestor, James Nicholson Bankson, b. 1794, fought in Battle of North Point, Baltimore, 1814. I have been unable to determine who his parents were. He was said to have been born in Washington, D. C. His sisters were: Mary Bankson Willing, Harriot Bankson Stewart, and Maria Louisa Bankson Bolton. I'm thinking that perhaps the middle name of Nicholson was from the maternal side, but can find no connection. Any help will be appreciated. Martha Lyle

Hi, I'm looking for information on a Sydney Ernest Nicholson who married my Great Great Grandmother (Annie Burman) in the early part of the 20th Century. I believe he married before marrying Annie and therefore was a bigamist. I have not been able to track any information about him, although he does appear on the birth certificate of my great grandmother (Muriel Nicholson born 1917) and my Great Aunt (Beatrice Nicholson born 1919). He may have given false information to be the father of these two.

I also have stories in the family of Sydney being in the army at so point in his life and of serving in the first world war. Again no trace of this can be found apart from my Great Grandmother's birth certificate.
