I have no further information on this individual.
I have a list issued by the Headquarters of the 226 th Field Artillery Battalion APO 180 dated 18 Sep 1945. General Orders Number 6: Commendations:
Private First Class George F Nicks (Army serial No. ---6703), Field Artillery, United States Army. For heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy at Leyte, P.I., on 25 October 1944. When the battery of which he was a member was subjected, during the early morning , to a Banzai attack by approximately fifty Japanese, Private First Class Nicks (thn Private Nicks) left the safety of his slit trench and crawled through hostile rifle fire to supply hand greades to a flank position shere he, with four other men of his unit, succedded in repelling the attack. This action prevented serious casualties and damage to the personnel and material of his unit, and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
By order of Major Lubersky:
Official: Gustave J Schwabe, Captain, F.A. Adjutant.
