Hello Cousin -- Euphrosine (Madeleine) was Jeans' daughter by Jeanne Nipissing (Bahmahmaadjimowin Giisis)b. abt.1625 she married Jean Leblanc then Elie Dussault Lafleur. Marguerite b. 1642 was Euphrosines' 1/2 sister by Jean and Marguerite Couillard. She married Jean Baptiste Legardeur Derepentigny. Our Marguerite I believe was born in France abt.1635. Jean was born 1n 1598. I know Jean had 2 brothers but I have found no proof of a sister, although some poeple believe that our Marguerite is his sister. Another mystery.Jean had a grandaughter Elisabeth Manitoukoue born 1642 by Euphrosine. We have Marie Manitoukoue b. abt. 1737 in our line. Are they somehow related? What paper work would you like?
David
She lived in Quebec city and stayed there and as a result I am her descendant.
I have the French genealogy paperwork that proves it.
I hope that helps. - Are we cousins?

Nicolet de Belleborne‘s marriage (county) to Sauvagesse Nipissirinienne, Marie-Madeleine Euphrosine Nicolet, Métis 1626-1698.

This is a call out to all descendents of Jean Nicolet de Belleborne‘s marriage (county) to Sauvagesse Nipissirinienne, Marie-Madeleine Euphrosine Nicolet, Métis 1626-1698.

Times are changing in Canada. Under the Constitution Of Canada 1982, Metis are recognized as one of the three aboriginal peoples in Canada. We now have our aboriginal rights. Under the Constitution to be metis you have to have an aboriginal ancestor, self profess to be metis and to belong to a metis community.

As chief of my community, I am putting out this request for my relatives who are descendant of this grand mother or any other aboriginal grandmother to join our aboriginal community. The Metis of Canada are coming together we know who we are but we now have communal rights if you join a community.

This is not a fund raiser!!! This is a joining of families back together.

If you are interested in learning more please contact me at the e-mail address located in the print message screen.

According to my family information, as well as a book written by Helen Kershner, Jules was actually the father, and Ulysses was his son. The story of the gun is correct, except that Jules pulled it on Ulysses. Please let me know if you have some information that shows my information is incorrect.

By the way, I am desended from Paul Nicolet, a son of Jules.

Thanks,
Julie

Jules Nicolet was my Grandmother's Grandfather. He was one of 12 kids. The story goes that Ulysses wasn't exactly a kind dad, and actually pulled a shotgun on one of his sons. The other kids pulled him away saved the life of young Jules! Just think - if he'd succeeded I wouldn't be writing this!

My grandmother actually knew "(great) Aunt Bertha" and "(great) Aunt Lena". Lena moved to Colorado after marrying a missionary. She has a book detailing all of them. I'd be glad to pass along info once I get it. (She Grandpa are going on vacation this week.)
Her line is as follows:
My grandmother: Phyllis Adele (Ernst) Pierce
Her father: Hans Ernst
Her mother: Emily Adele (Nicolet) Ernst
Her mother's father: Jules Nicolet
Her grandfather's father: Ulysses Nicolet

That's all I have so far.
Anneliese

I believe I am the great-great-great-grandaughter of the Nicolet in question. They had 12 children in all. I am the great-grandaughter of Emilie Adele Nicolet Ernst(sister Evelyn Alice Nicolet Macleod). Do any of these names ring bells? Please email me aclear@cinci.rr.com

We would be very interested in the descendent information you have. We will be able to fill in at least some of Jules siblings and his parents. I am working on going back and down. My mom and aunt may also have stories if you are interested.

I am also working on Nicolet family history. I believe Jules was the brother of Bertha Nicolet, married to Charles Matthey. Bertha is my great grandmother. I have the parents names from their marriage certificate. As I sit here with my mom and Aunt Marilyn, we were thrilled to see your message. They knew 'Uncle Jules' as children.
Nicolet Charles

Charles is a fourth kid. He came to America with Jules. He married Alvina Sandoz in McLean County, IL in 1893. Bertha traveled over from Switzerland with Alvina as a companion/friend? They were going to be sister in laws. Bertha married my great grandfather, Charles Matthey in 1895. Charles Matthey had hooked up with the Nicolet brothers on their voyage over to America. My understanding from my aunt is that Jules went back to Switzerland and brought his bride back to America. I don't know when.

Jules Nicolet

When my grandfather, Edmond Portner, arrived in this country from Switzerland the ship's manifest indicates he was joining his uncle, Jules Nicolet, in Cleghorn (Cherokee, Iowa). After reading the messages on this board, I see that Jules was married to Emma Portner so I'm assuming that Emma was the actual relative. I'm trying to trace the Portner line back into Switzerland and also trying to gather more info on Edmond. I know he farmed in the midwest most of his life. Knowing more about Jules might give me additional clues. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. I'm heading off to work and want to get back to you. I have no ancestors on Jules, just descendents. He and Emma had nine children, their son Armand was my son-in-law's grandfather. Are you interested in any of what I might have?
