I would like to know the parents, brothers, and sisters of my great-great grandfather George W. Nicolls who was born in August 1816 in one of the predecessor counties of Tompkins County, New York (became county in 1817). He worked on the family farm until about age 20 and could barely read and write. He left the farm and went to Oberlin College in Oberlin OH where he studied to be a Presbyterian minister. He left college before recieving his degree and started his ministry in Kentucky. He returned to Oberlin College and married a Miss Lyon in 1841 to whom he had proposed some years earlier when they were still in New York. He continued his ministry in Kentucky as well as in Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. Churches in Jasper and other near by counties were his last calling. He died in Illinois in late 1880 or early 1881.
