WALCOTT, Iowa - Stanley O. Niebuhr, 69, of Walcott, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at his home.
Private Masonic services will be held Monday, June 26, 2006, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A time of food and fellowship will begin 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2006, at the Club Mokan, Davenport, for family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund, the Walcott Fire Department or the Bettendorf High School Class of 56 Scholarship Fund.
Mr. Niebuhr was born July 29, 1936, in Davenport, the son of Frank and Hazel Browder Niebuhr. He married Patricia Hoover on Nov. 11, 1959, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport.
He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for four years. He and his wife ran the family business, Niebuhr's Inc., until retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Kaaba Temple, Scottish Rite, Mohassan Grotto, Greeters and served as an assistant chairman for Shriners Hospital and in public relations. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, helping coordinate many Shriners events and especially transporting children to the Shriners Hospital.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jill Beitel and husband, Mark; a granddaughter, Alyssa; a brother, Raymond and wife, Gwen, of Cannon Beach, Ore.; and a sister, Alice Riessen and husband, Warren, of Walcott.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
