Here's a long shot.
I am searching for any information on a Captain Neilson (or similar spelling), who lived in Bristol (Gloucestershire) England in the early part of the 19th century. No further details are known, but I suspect that living in Bristol meant that he was a sea captain, shipowner or merchant or something like this.
According to a family story, my ggggrandmother, Elizabeth Hall (1806-1873) was raised by the Neilson family rather than her own parents. However, family stories from this source have proved to be unreliable, and the source and any others who could shed light on the matter are long dead.
