Hi, I'm trying to find a continuation of part of my family tree. The surname I'm searching is Styles/Stiles. We've been traced back to James Styles born Oct 24 (o.s), Nov 4 (n.s.) i Berkshire England 1743. His parents were Francis Styles and Sarah Nightingale, however I can't seem to find (nor has any before me) any traces of either Francis Styles OR Sarah Nightingale. Do you happen to have information regarding either of these folks?

Any assistance you could provide me would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm looking for anyone with Nightingale connections to Hertfordshire before the 1800's. I have documented my lines from Essex, to Middlesex then to a Charles Nightingale b.1787 & Elizabeth Withers b.abt 1781 of Wormley Hertfordshire. I do have unconfirmed details of Nightingale's back to 1686, all Hertfordshire and would like to find & share information with other researchers looking in this area. If there are any!!! Doesnt seem to be too many looking in these areas!!!

Still would be happy to hear from anyone looking in the London Middlesex and Essex areas, might be able to fill in some gaps

Mary Beth, Can you trace our lineage to Florence Nightingale? I hired a genealogist from the UK and she after looking at the records said the Nightingale's from Cambridgeshire were not related to the Derbyshire Nightingale, and in that case we would not be related to Florence. Any thoughts? Thanks, Lela Nightingale Gray, Medford, Oregon. PS: What lineage of this Nightingale family are you. My father was Everett s/o John Everett, s/o George Camps, s/o John Camps, s/o William Wiseman s/o Camps and so on.

Lela,

The information I have is not original to me. Thus far I have found it accurate. William Nightingale b 3 June 1715, Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, England. He died May 1784 Haddenham, laborer

He may have married twice: 1st (age 17?) to Sarah Wiggs 1734 in Caxton Cambridgeshire, 2nd Catherine Tubbs b 1721. She was born and married in Haddenham. Children are from his second marriage.

I am related to this lineage. Question: Robert and Camps father, William married to Catherine Tubbs- can you give me his birth and death date. I show 3 June 1715 - 12 Feb 1845, which would make him 130 at death. I also am confused further up the line to a William Nighingale (1629-1729) who was married to Elizabeth Clerk. Was he married twice? and was the spelling of the Nightingale name Nightingall and Nightinghall? Confused. Thanks, Lela

Polly Tanner's parents were Thomas Tanner (1783-1868) and Ailsey Jernigan (1790-1826). Ailsey had a sister Albey Jernigan who married Thomas' brother John Tanner. Thomas was the son of Samuel Tanner (1744-1851) and Sarah E Wilkins (1755-1826). I have the Jernigan's back to the 1100's. My information is on Ancestry.com as Nightingale Family Tree. I can mail you all the information I xeroxed from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City if you are interested. Just e-mail me your address to enightingale@cox.net and I'll get it sent out early next week. I'm out of town starting tomorrow until Sunday evening. Evelyn Nightingale

I'm a Kansas Nightingale. My GG grandfather was Edward, B. 1811 in Bury, Lancashire. My G grandfather was Benjamin, B. 1837, in Bury, Lancashire. My grandfather was Fred Bowen Nightingale, b. 1883 in Nemaha County, Kansas. Haven't been able to find anything on ggg earlier than Edward. Know gg Benjamin had a sister, but his obit said there were more siblings, but didn't name them. When Benjamin immigrated, he started out in Canada, then to the US with a stop in Illinois where he married before coming to Kansas. I suspect he stayed w/relatives in Canada, but no proof.

John,

Thank you for your kind reply. I am interested in the children of Robert Nightingale b 1760 Haddenham, Cambridgeshire. He had two families. First he married Mary Read Whiting about 1783. I do not have the names and birth dates of these children. In 1800 he began having children with Mary's daughter Mary Whiting. My Nightingale line descends from Robert Francis (second family) b 15 May 1801 (date taken from family Bible). Robert married, had a son Moses and left England for America. He went to Vanderburgh Indiana where there were already several Nightingale 1/2 brothers to Robert. I would like to know the names of the children from the first family. I think John and Jesse were two but I don't know when they were born and if there were others.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Marybeth Nightingale

Sharan,

It is possible Harriet could be a half sister of Robert Nightingale b 1801 in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, Eng. Harriet is a name that was used by Robert's son Moses for one of his daughters. If Hattie came to Vanderburgh, Indiana she must be related. There were about 5 brothers that seem to have settled there from England. Where specifically was she born? I need to go back through my notes to see if I can give you more details that fit her. I do have more information on Robert and his father if we discover where you are connected.

Marybeth

I would be interested in details you discovered regarding this family in the Cambridge Record office. My line comes through Robert F Nightingale b 1801 in Haddenham. He is the son of Robert Nightingale and Mary Whitten/ing.

Thanks!

Marybeth Nightingale

Shafan,

Sorry I mispelled you name the first time around. I notice we have a minor difference in the spelling of Nightingale. In the past 40 years the "e" in the middle is the most common mistake I have experienced.

The three counties you have listed are all the same as those lived in during Robert Francis Nightingale's life. He, his wife Mary Ann Oakey Nightingale and their son Moses came to New Orleans in Feb or 1832. Their origins are in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire. Robert died, 11 June 1864 in Princeton Ind. He was mustered out of the Union Army about the 24th of June. I am assuming that he died of causes resulting from the Civil War but I have no details as yet.

He and his wife are buried in the Warrick Cemetery.

I think we need to keep in touch and we'll figure out where Harriet Nightengale comes from. my email address is marybethnightingale@comcast.net

As you have seen it along Chorley New Road I wonder if the Trust owned the rights to collect tolls?

I'm only interested in passing - have you tried the Local History Centre in Bolton (Le Mans Crescent?)

Unfortunately, I only know that Harriet was born in England. She came to America, I suspect, through Canada as she was married to Aaron Hill in Rochester NY in 1833. They were in Indiana by 1838.

The children were Emaline, Ann Elizabeth, Laura Ann, William Edward and Isabell Louise. Are any of these names used in your family? They had property in Warrick, Vanderburgh and Gibson counties between 1838 and 1860.

Thank you so much for your help.

Shafan
