John Nile - Plymouth, Devon

I am looking for a baptism record of John Nile born about 1804 Plymouth, Devon. John, his wife Mary Ann and family are in the 1841, 51 and 61 censuses and there is a death record for Sep 1867 - Plymouth, Devon but I cannot find any records for his birth/baptism.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

My name is Melissa Nile and our branch of the "Nile" family are living in Australia. There are at least two of us (that I know of, at least) trying to trace our family heritage back.

Hoar -> Nile in Rangeley

In the 1870 census for Franklin Co, Maine, five families appear with surname Nile that had been surname Hoar in the 1860 census.

Does anyone know the reason for this name change?

Was there a family feud? Was there a Civil War disgrace? Was there embarrassment about the similar sounding "whore"? Could it be that one of the wives was Dorcas Hoar (m.n. Haley), which was the name of a 1692 Salem accused witch?

My former father-in-law was Orris Jessie Nile of Pinehurst, MA, married to Mary (Beecher, I believe), had sons Richard, Paul, Robert, and daughters Ann, Mary T and Shelia. Is this the same Orris Nile? If so, I am researching the family for my sons and grandsons and would appreciate more information from whoever can provide it.

Any Nile people still around - these messages all seem old...

My father was LeRoy Albion Nile - born about 1914 - adopted by Leland F.(Franklin ?) and Ellen Naomi (or Naomi Ellen) Nile when he was about 7 yrs old, I think. My father wrote 2 books about Maine - Tales of the Rangeley Lakes and Kennebago Summer. Married Martha and moved to SC after WW2.

My grandfather, Leland ran some kind of a camp in Rangeley Lakes, I think. Please reply, thanks!

My family are also Nile. I know very little about my family history i was wondering if anyone can find a connection. All my existing relatives are all from the doncaster area my grandad was edward nile and grandmother ivy nile i think they were born in doncaster but unsure. sorry i know little else as im new to this but if anyone can find a connection that id be pleased to help

I'm visiting the US (to see our new grand-daugther in VA) and have found by chance this site. (We live in the UK)

I'm also trying to find my ancestors "Nile"

My father was Antonio Nile, and born in Gibraltar,
the British Colony in the South of Spain.

I was also born there, but we were taken to the UK during the war.

My Grandfather was Charles Nile, and so is one of my brothers. My Grandfather was Captain of the Port of Gibraltar
at around 1900's

My father left Gibraltar for Argentina, at the turn of the Century.
He was born in 1887, married there, and returned to Europe in about 1927, settling in La Linea, the nearest town to Gibraltar.

He was one of several brothers and sisters, who were scaterred all over the place, and have lost track of them.

The family word is that the Nile's originally came to Gibraltar from the Manchester (UK) area, but have never been able to
trace any of them in the UK.

There is a lovely Nile family in St Austell, Cornwall, UK, but we can not find any common ground.

Can anobody shed any light ??

Charles Nile was my great grandfather. He was born either in Rangeley or Dallas Plantation in 1983 and died in 1952. The oldest son of Charles and Flora Taylor Nile (1859-1944)was my grandfather James E. Nile.
Charles' parents were James Brackett (1832-1906) and Samantha Hinckley Nile (1829-1896). He was born James B. Hoar but changed his name to Nile about 1870.
James B.'s parents were John Hoar (1809-1857) and Lois Brackett Hoar (1801-1847).
John's father was the first white settler in Rangeley (1817), Luther Hoar (1771-1843) and Eunice Lakeman Hoar (1776-1846). He came to Maine from Concord , Mass.
I can trace the family back to the late 1500's and Charles Hoare in Gloucestershire in southwestern England.
James E., Charles and James B. Nile and wives are buried in the Evergreen Cementery in Rangeley. John and Luther Hoar and wives are buried above Rangeley in the Nile Cementery in Dallas Plantation.

Hazen Nile

Hazen was the son of Calvin Nile (my greatgrandfather's Charles brother) and Edith Haley Nile. His grandfather was James Brackett Nile (born James B. Hoar). James' father was John Hoar and his grandfather was the first white settler (1817) of the Rangeley Lakes region, Luther Hoar from Concord, Mass.
Hazen was married to Anna Swett.

Does anyone have any info on my ancester Almarinda (NILE) ADKINS (b about 1834 in OH). She married Francis Morton ADKINS (b 23 Dec 1830 in Adair, KY; d 2 Dec 1918 in Deway, OK) on 15 May 1856 in Carrollton, Carroll, MO. Therefore, her parents probably lived there as well.

Jesse Nile's family

Jesse was my grandfather, born 2/25/1893 in Dallas Plantation. He lived for many years in West Peru. Married to Mertie Heath(born around 7/10/1893). Jesse had six children: Orris(my father, born in Madrid ME), Charles Glen, Carroll(son-died during or around WWII-he also had a twin sister that died at birth or in infancy),Reta, and Rowena(daughter of second wife, also named Mertie, I believe).

I have three brothers and two sisters, Glenn had three sons and three daughters, Reta had three sons and three daughters, and Rowena had four sons.

Jesse, to my recollection, had two brothers, James and John, a half brother Leland and two sisters, Una and Lois.

While growing up my family visited Maine quite frequnetly, my Dad like to keep in touch with the family. I remember the name Toothaker. I have a faint memory of visiting great uncle James(he was laid up).
Both my parents died. Maybe I'l get in touch with my older sister and brother.

Sorry I don't have more "old" info.

My husband Is trying to find out more about his Nile ancestry. My husband went into foster care when he was just three years old. He knows that his father's name was Hazen Nile and that he was born in 1916 and died in 1984. Other than that he is not certain of much of anything. Hazen lived in Rangeley, Maine at one time and may have been born there. He might also have lived in Oxford, Maine at one time and may have died in Paris, Maine. I was wondering if he might have been related in any way to the Charles Nile that someone on the message board said was buried at the Nile Cemetery in Rangeley. Anyone who has any information can send it directly to nile@hci.net.

James Nile Farmer

My 3rd great grandmother, Nancy McCord Farmer (nee Jameson) used the name Nile as the middle name for her son James Nile Farmer in the early 1800's in Kentucky. She had used other surnames in the family as middle names for her children so I must assume that we tie into a Nile family somewhere.

Does anyone have Farmers, McCords or Jameson in the late 1700's early 1800's in their lines?
