Nemons/Nimmons

I have William Nemons (name said to be French) from around Carlisle, Pa, before the Revolution. Was a Constable in what is now Washington Co., Pa., when the territory still belonged to Virginia. He was killed on the retreat from the stupid Sandusky, Ohio raid. Shot, then scalped!
He married Letitia Huston, also said to be "From Carlisle" and their daughter, Isabella, married Moses Bebout, who came from NJ about 1785. They are ancestors of mine.
In records of Va and Pa. the name is sometimes spelled Nimmons. Anybody have any Pa. Nemons/Nimmons/Nemmons? I have seen the name in and around the central Pa. region in census indices. I come from Western Pa.

Death Notice from The Belfast Telegraph, N Ireland.

NIMMONS - Died at Horsham, Victoria, Australia, 19 October 1931, Alexander Nimmons as the result of an accident.
Deeply regretted by his sorrowing Uncle and Aunt,
Hugh and Bella Nimmons.

Bella and Hugh are long since dead, but they were related to my grandmother Mary Jane Nimmons who died before I was born.

There is also some family folklore that a Jim Nimmons left Belfast, probably in the early 1920s to work as an engineer for the Australian Railways.

Can anyone please help?

Nimmons name

My wife Margaret's maiden name was Nimmons
and she used to live in Northern Ireland,
her father's family came from randalstown,
Co Antrim. I have tried most of the search
engines for her acestory without much luck.
Margaret was told that the name originates
from France, where they were persecuted as
hugenots in the middle ages and emigrated
all over the world.
