Failte!!! Molly: Our Niven family is Scottish, but they also have an Irish component through marriage. Our line is from John Niven of Kinross, and his son Robert b. 1772 d. Feb 15/1845 Dunfermline.

John Niven m. Rebecca Arbuckle of my grandfather Robert Angus Niven.
Angus Reekie Niven m. Mary Chalmers Wallace father of my grandmother Agnes Reekie Niven.
As you can see Agnes Reekie Niven & Robert Angus Niven were 1st cousins.
Agnes Reekie Niven & Robert Angus Niven p/o my father Alexander Heath Niven. Robert came to Canada in 1924 on the ship Cassandra joining his daughters Agnes Reekie Niven and Agnes Smith Niven who had preceded him to Canada. My grandmother came in 1926 on the Athenia with their other four children: Robert, Alec, Freddie and Lily. Only one son remained in Scotland - Gilbert.
The Irish component is through the wife of John Niven - Rebecca Arbuckle - her parents were born in Ireland - Thomas Arbuckle & Rebecca Darkies/Darkas. Thomas's parents John Arbuckle & Helen Strang - while Rebecca was the d/o Thomas Darkas & Margaret McKinlay.
I don't know if or how they would fit in with your Niven families - but you are welcome to compare - please let me know your findings. Slainte!!! NHC
