Hello, Cousin Kathy
I just posted a reply before I read this posting. All my ggparents are buried at Grant's Creek in Fosters. We would go there with my grandmother for "decoration day". My grandfather (Ernest Kirksey Wood) was the grandson of Martha Ann Nix and Henry Lewis Wood. Martha Ann Nix (b. 23 May 1826 Pendleton District SC) was the daughter of Frederick Henry Nix and Sarah Mitchell. Martha Ann's brothers were William Lawson, Tilmon, Thomas J, Robert, Joseph, John H., Aaron, Jeremiah, and David. She had a sister Nancy also. I believe, but have not proved, Frederick Henry Nix's father to be Joseph Nix, son of Aaron Joseph Nix (b. 1736 Union District SC). I think Joseph Nix (b. about 1770 Union District SC) had sons Aaron, Benjamin, Moses, Frederick Henry, and Jeremiah). Thus, the male names continuing down the line. A large group from this region of SC (Pendleton, Pickens, Anderson) came to Alabama between 1825 and 1830 (families were Dunlap, Kirksey, Foster, Patterson, Mitchell). They all settled in the Greene County-Tuscaloosa County areas and intermarried. Does this connect with your Alabama ancestors?
