I'm looking for descendants of Homer Alphonso Nix and Elsie Ford Nix near Mineral Wells, Texas. A search indicates a daughter of theirs (possibly named Betty Louise) married a man named Stith, and they may still be alive. Betty's sister Margaret is my paternal grandmother. I'd love to contact them if possible if anyone could help, as I don't see a contact listed for the Stiths on the OneWorldTree.

Can you assist? Let me know and I'll give you my email to pass on.

Thomas Nix 1815-1859

Thomas Nix, born South Carolina about 1815, appeared in north Georgia about 1835. He married Nancy Weaver in Lumpkin County, Georgia, in 1839. They had 8 children and Thomas and at least two children reportedly died during a typhoid outbreak in Dawson County, Georgia, (which was formed from Lumpkin). Nancy and some children moved to Gordon County, Georgia, by 1880. One son and one daughter stayed in the Dawson, Hall County area, but a brother, John Lewis (or Luis) and family, as well as a sister, Pallie or Palistine and family, moved on. They have not been found after 1880. We are looking for descendants of these two children and the parents of Thomas. We have much to share.

I am doing a family tree for my room mate and need some help. His fathers name was or is James (we are not sure if he's still alive) and James's fathers name was Bruce James 1921- 1992 (in Silver hill), who married a Marie Moore whom I only have a death date of 1966.
I have a grgrgrgr Grandfather John Granger Nix born 1760 in S.C. Married a Sarah Speed. Cannot get any futher in the past then him. Cannot find parents, I do have a gut feeling him and a William Nix might have been brothers but cannot prove it so far. I believe this because He has a son named William and it is a name that carries on in the decendents along with George Washington and Larkin D.and a Sarah,and I know these names seem to be in the Nix trees. If anyone can help email me at Rebelwoman1957@msn.com

My grandmother, Mary Evelyn Nix, was born in the early 1900's in Oklahoma. She married Cecil Leroy McClellan. They had 4 sons 1 daughter. I am the daughter of their second son, Billy Joe, by his second marriage. Any cousins out there to help with the family tree I'm creating for my daughter? My grandparents settled around Arvin, CA about 1934.

Lucinda J. Boon and her husband Horatio M. Nix

	I am looking for Horatio M. NIX. Not a common NIX name and he does not seem to be a common man. I first met him when he married Lucinda J. Boon 10 June 1861 in Blount County Alabama. She was the daughter of Mary Alexander and Tyre Boon, and the Granddaughter of Mary and Daniel D. Alexander. My ggg-grandmother was also a daughter of Daniel D. Alexander and a younger sister to Mary, her name was Lucinda so it appears that Mary named her daughter after her sister, my ggg-grandmother. In turn it appears that my ggg-grandmother named her first son for her sister's husband Tyre.
But I am searching for Horatio. My knowledge of him is spare, but when they married Lucinda was 35 years old and it appears this was her first marriage. So I estimate that Horatio could have been between 20 and 40, born between 1821 and 1841. The Boon and Nix families were all from Pickens area in South Carolina, and can be found on the same census pages in 1830 through 1850, and then in Blount and Etowah Counties in Alabama. I know nothing about Horatio before they married.
My second bit of information concerns Horatio two months after his marriage;

Nix, Horatio M., enlisted as a private 10 Aug 1862 in Company E by Captain Lewis; on muster roll to 30 Apr 1863; muster roll to 11 Jun 1864 reported he was absent without leave; muster roll from 1 Jul to 31 Aug 1864 reported he deserted 10 Mar 1864; no further record.

I have some history on Company E. which shows that they served most of their duty in Alabama, and there was a serious problem, particularly late in the War, with men departing (deserting) as the unit was near their home town. However there is no indication that Horatio ever returned to continue their two month long married life. Lucinda in fact married a second time to Pleasant Sewell on 8 June 1869 in Etowah County, Alabama. And I am searching for any sign of Horatio M. Nix.

Joseph, Missouri, and Thomas are in the 1880 census for Gwinnett, but then fall into the genealogy black hole of 1880-1900.

Thanx, John

Edward Nix (c1780-) (Georgia)

Edward Nix moved from Covington County, Georgia, to Oglethorpe County in 1805. I am not sure when he was born (probably around 1780), or where, or where he died, nor do I know his wife’s name.

Edward had at least one child, a son named William Sanford Nix, who was born in 1804 in Oxford, Newton County, Georgia, and died in 1878 near Clayton, Barbour County, Alabama.

William Sanford Nix married Mary E. “Polly” Smith (1804-1865) on March 2, 1820, in Elbert County, Georgia, and they moved to Barbour County, Alabama, in 1845. They had five children, among them my second-great-grandfather David Edward Nix (1823-1902), who married Elizabeth Brooks Thomasson (1819-1895) in 1855.

Although I see other Nix families in and around the same areas in Georgia, I have not been able to tie them to this Edward. It is not likely, for example, that he is the Edward Nix born in 1789 in York County, S.C., who married Cynthia Patton in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, on July 24, 1808, because (a) the marriage predated William Sanford Nix’s birth by some three years and (b) various lists of their children do not show a William. It’s also unlikely that he is the Edward Nix who was born on February 2, 1778, in Oglethorpe County, because the Edward I am seeking did not live in that county until 1805.

Any leads on Edward Nix and his ancestors would be appreciated.

Nix DNA Project 2006 year end report

2006 has been a very exciting year for the DNA project. During this last year, we added 9 new project members!

In 2006 our membership also expanded beyond the US to include Nix families in Australia and Canada. Other American Nix families with known immigrant ancestors from Ireland and Germany have also participated. We hope to add more international Nix families in the coming year. In fact, our newest project member has a Nix ancestor immigrated that from Ireland to the US in the late nineteenth century.

So far, the DNA test have revealed 7 distinctly different Nix families. This number is very likely to continue to increase as more members join the project and "new" Nix lines are uncovered. Among the 7 lines, so far 2 have found matching members. One large group of matching participants now numbers 14 individual testees. Another group is composed of 2 individuals.

If you haven't already taken a look at it, be sure to stop by the "Nix General Info" section of our website at http://www.nixfamilytree.com . We host many records related to Nix individuals in the past.

I want to again thank all the DNA project members for their participation. Also I would like to thank the many Nix family tree researchers who have helped so much in tracing the ancestry of our project members lines. In many cases, they are Nix daughters who are unable to supply a male DNA sample themselves, but they help so much in the research end, or encourage a male Nix cousin or brother to supply a DNA sample. Their assistance is always appreciated!

I hope you all have a safe and happy new year.

Thomas Nix
Hello, have just discovered my ggggrandfather's middle name was Nix. His whole name was Quinton (Quinten and various other spellings) Nix Cain.
He was born in NC somewhere around 1801 to 1803 and by 1830 was in Indiana.

I'm taking a chance that he may have been named Nix because it was a family surname somewhere.

I have looked for a possible Nix / Cain marriage, but came up empty handed so far with a date that could be possible. Would anyone have any information on a possible Nix / Cain marriage, or possibly a daughter of a Nix mother? Maybe the surname was his maternal grandmother's maiden name?

Any help or advice with Quinten or his family would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.
Love,
Barb King

Looking for information on Mark and Marza (Margaret) Nix. Both were born in SC. I believe Mark was born about 1797 and Marza was born about1802. I believe Mark is the son of Benjamin and Millicent (Weeks) Nix and the grandson of Joseph Nix. Mark and Marza were in Calloway Co., KY in 1835 (have tax records). They were on the 1830 census in Williamson Co., TN also. Have Mark's will. He died in 1847 in Henry Co., TN. Marza then married a John Crawford (widower). Marza Nix Crawford next shows up on the 1860 census in Independence Co., AR where she went with her youngest son and daughter (my line - Lydia Ann Nix who married Angus A. BROWNING). Two of their sons married Alexander's. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
During World War II, he served in France, Belgium, Holland, the Rhineland and the occupation of Germany as a soldier in the 82nd Airborne Division. He carried a charter member card of the 82nd Airborne Division Association all of his remaining days.

His late wife, Jewel Aline Mason Nix, also of Asheville, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. C.E. English of Foley, Ala.; five children, William M. Nix and Sarah of Winter Springs, Fla., Harry N. Nix and Chris of Angola, Ind., Victoria L. Tharrington and Rick of Watha, N.C., Rebecca L. Rockney and Bill of Edon, Ohio, and Laura R. Kaczmarek and David, also of Angola; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He loved his country, family and friends and always sought out the good in everyone he encountered in life. He would never turn away anyone in need. His humor, wisdom, fierce independence, steadfast loyalty and presence will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by his children.

At his request, his remains will be cremated and placed alongside his lifelong love and mother of his children in Asheville in the Spring.

The family wishes that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of the Comforter, 408 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714, or Elk Hart, c/o Angola Elks Lodge #2398, Angola, IN 46703.

Horatio M.

My second bit of information concerns Horatio two months after his marriage;

Nix.

<daltonn@knology.net>

I am trying to find ties to Moses Nix of Hickman Co. He was the son of William and Sarah Nix of poss Union S.C.. Moses' son my 3rd great grandfather was Hiram Nix, his son was John L. Nix, his son was Joseph Andrew Nix, and his son (my grandfather) was Joe Ralph Nix. I have been informed that this is the correct lineage in my family. I currently have Hiram's parents as Aaron Nix (son of John Lyon) and Rosetta Collins. I have been told my research as it is now, is inaccurate as it is from the LDS library. Please help!

Thomas Nix (1869) married Lucinda Etta Nix (1878) and children James Stewart Nix, Bertha Mae Nix, Nellie B. Nix, Minnie E. Nix, and Ruby L. Nix

The above referenced family lived in Union County and Hall County, GA in the 1900's to 1930. Lucinda Etta Nix died prior to 1920, but her children, James Stewart Nix (Stewart Nix - born 1897), Bertha Mae Nix (b 1899 and who married Bonnie Mack Simpson), Nellie B Nix born May 1900 who I believe died in childhood, Minnie E Nix (born 1907) who married Bob Cagle around 1928 and Ruby L. Collins (born 1904) moved to Hall County, with thier father (Thomas, Tommie, Tomie Nix) after her death.

I am particularly interested in any living descendents of these people as they are my half-uncle's cousins. His grandmother was America Nix (also called Mary Nix) born about 1873 in White County, GA.

If you have any information on these people, dates of marriage, who they married, etc, I would be most appreciative if you would contact me. I would love to be able to get my uncle in touch with "family" as he has become very interested in genealogy.
