Sorry for late reply but did not see this. Yes, James Earl Nix was my grandfather and did die in 1967 in SF where I was born. Thank you for the information. My grandfather kept a wonderful album of the family but some of the pictures where not noted as to what the relation was. Are you related to the family?

I record full NIX families when ever I find them but often do not fully document then unless I find a link. At this point I am not sure why nor have I fully documented this family, but I have Emily Melvina Nix, b. 19 Dec 1819 in Georgia, d. 17 Mar 1906. Jacksonville, Calhoun County, Alabama. She married John William Bradley 15 Jan 1844, Newton County, Georgia and they had eight issue, 5 male and 2 female. I can give additional information on some of the of the offspring. Emily was daughter of David Nix and Mary Cox, David was son of Robert Nix and Susanna Burns. Is this the family you are searching?
I can give more NIX information but I do not know about John William Bradley.

I am pretty sure that Malinda and George are the only children of Huldie and Uriah. George is my great-great grandfather.

I did find census records from 1870 indicating that Malinda and George were living with Burton (brother of Uriah). The other children were living with a member of the Spann family. I know that Uriah died in the Civil War in 1862. I am still trying to find out what happened to Huldie.

Thanks for your answer. My ancestor was named William Gassaway and he married Bathsheba born SC. 1800. He died in the Florida Indian war. Bathsheba got land in Chicot Co AR for his service. Bathsheba is on the Gordon GA 1850 census with several of her kids.Melinda, Lucinda, Sarah, Benjamin ( shown as Bery) war record says known by both names, Jackson(Andrew Jackson) I think she has another child William living on the Christianbery Bruster place. She lived to be 103 years old and I can't find her maiden name. I saw Thomas Gassaway married Sarah Nix Gordon GA. Andrew J came to Red River co TX and I have been told he came with a Nix family. I am just grasping at straws. I would like to find their parents but there are so many William Gassaways. Thanks for your answer.

Nix Family - Alabama by way of "the Carolinas."

I'm just starting my family tree and wondered if anyone could tell me about any family I had in "the Carolinas." Apparently my grandfather (Frank "Frankie" Thomas Nix, Sr.) moved down from "the Carolinas" to the Alabama area before/during/after World War 2. He was a truck driver for the Army I believe - and that's about all the information I have, unfortunately. He passed away in 2006, if I recall correctly. He was married and three times divorced (if I recall correctly) and my paternal grandmother (his wife and my father's mother) was Ernestine Smith.

Thomas Nix & Millie Elizabeth Gassaway did not stop in Gordon County on their way to Blount County, Alabama. In fact I think that Gordon County was formed latter. The Treaty of New Echota gave Georgia the ownership of the area but it was several years before they formed Gordon County. The older brother of Elizabeth, William D. Gassaway and his wife Anna Gaines were in Madison County, Alabama by 1870. They may have stopped in Georgia. Elizabeth's mother Cosby Curtis died in S.C. and her father William W. married Ludina Jane McWhorter. They came to Blount County, Alabama and after the War removed to Arkansas. But they did not stop in Gordon County, Georgia.

We have a bit more info on your 3rd Gfather Leonard Nix thru census info he was born about 1808 North Carolina and died before 1880 @ 72 . My info lists Franklin's father as Martin Nix and his mother as Mary Ellen Collins (instead of Carman and who was born 13 Aug 1855). My X-father-in-law was Ralph O. Nix, son of Richard John Nix, who was the son of Franklin.

I have Oatsie M. Nix born 22 aug 1915, died 19 Feb 1972, Blount County, Alabama, buried High Rock FCM Cemetery. I have his father as Thomas F. Nix, born 28 feb 1892, died 26 Dec 1960. also buried at High Rock Cemetery. Mother as Velma E, Unknown. Born 7 Jan 1896, died 19 July 1973 Blount County, also High Rock. I have siblings as Elbert C., Catsie M., Edward T., Ervy T. and Lorene T. The 16 year old Oatsie was not listed with the family in the 1930 census, but a family member assures me he was the elder child of the family. A review of this would be suggested. I have not been able to connect this family with mine, living in Altoona, Etowah County at this time. daltonn@knology.net

Does anyone know for sure what children of Uriah Lafayette Nix/Nicks b.1837,(lived in Ark. 1860) belong to Delilah Spann and what children belong to Huldie. Malinda is 2 months old in 1860. Also i think "Burton" who is listed in 1860 Arkansas is the son of William Nicks not a son of Uriah's but a brother.

Joyce. I have met Roslyn Grace and her daughter Sue and husband Bill. I traced them a couple of years ago Roslyn Grace is my Dads (William Emerton) cousin and he keeps in contact with her. Dads 89 now and in good form still driving and enjoying a joke. hello glyn,i have spoken to my friend and she gave me the go ahead to tell you who she is.
her mother rosalin grace is the daughter of the young william nix and his wife hannah erwin they lived in 8 gertrude st chelsea. rosalin had 2 brothers raymond and sidney, sydney died.
my friends name is grace.
they were over the moon when i told them your grandmother was sarah. her grandfather william nix died in the 1990's.

I wanted to alert anyone connected with this family; the cemetery is currently about 75% overgrown and filled with rubbish (see attached photos).

The picture with the red rectangle shows the location of the cemetery, behind a strip mall known as Vista Park Plaza. The oldest known grave in the cemetery, that of A. Odom, has crumbled to the ground and the inset is now lying on the ground.

I have contacted the local newspaper, The Ledger in an attempt to get something done about it.

Yes That William Nix was my Gt Grandfather. (P356 Item 1a) I have his death cert he was 58 not 53. His eldest daughter Lena was my Grandmother she died when my Father was a child and My Grandfather remarried to her Sister Sarah. That is the lady I remember as my Grandmother. no , but a friend is.there was a william nix who died in chelsea in 1938 at the age of 53, jul august sept volumn 1a page 356. if you look at the 1911 census for sarah you will find her at school in kensington. glad you found your family i will tell my friend about you . regards

The St. Paul's Parish church records are clear that Edward's parents are James and Elizabeth. The Baptism took place 7 Nov 1686. The records still exist.

there was a william nix aged 8months alone in a workhouse in chelsea in the 1911 census.i believe his parents were william and ann. they married in 1899 in st lukes chelsea they were both 19 years.

We have a common ancestor then. This is a well-researched family as one branch joined the LDS and moved to Utah in the 19th century. My branch moved to Leicestershire.

NIX DNA - FTDNA Family Finder Test

I am looking for anyone who has done the Family Finder test (autosomal DNA test) with Family Tree DNA. I am descended from a DAVIS line that may connect to a NIX line and am hoping that through the autosomal DNA test we may be able to prove this. If there is anyone out there who has taken this test with FTDNA or even test with 23& Me, I would love to hear from you (I have DNA tests on both of these sites). My connection to the NIX line may be through William NIX in Rutherford CO, NC and his daughter Rebecca NIX born late 1790's.

I found a book in the Danville, VA library, Property Lines from Old Survey Books 1746-1840, by Roger C. Dodson. He overlays the old survey maps over the current maps. Nixes Creek, which is used in many property descriptions, is now called Beechtree Creek. Valentines Creek was and still is used. Valentines Creek is north of Nixes Creek.
Property owners listed near Nixes Creek are James Doss and James Patey

I had thought that the parents of Edward Nix were James [John] Nix (Hicks?) and Elizabeth Lewis. I just came across a site that says that the parents were Samuel Nix and Nancy Mary Sherman.

Does anyone know "for sure" who the parents of Edward Nix were?

my main problem of finding who that side of the family is..is that i only know maxie nix's name and my dads name...i think maxie nix is married but i can not remember her name...but i have no idea who anyone else is...thank you so much and ill see if i can somehow looks some of the brothers and sister up and see if it is the right maxie nix...thank you so much again!!!

My ggrandmother was Mary Elizabeth Nix. She married a Watson and my grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Watson and she married a Davidson. My mother was Mary J. Davidson and she married my father Johnnie C. McBride, thus, I am Susan McBride Cook. It is my understanding that Mary Elizabeth Nix was the daughter of Larkin and Lucinda Nix and Larkin Nix was the son of Littleberry Nix, who was the son of John Granger Nix. I too am confused as to why there are so many Larkin Nix and which is my correct descendant. Can you help? Thanks

I found an obituary of Maxie Nix's mother. Again, if this is the right Maxie Nix of SIlas...then this could prove helpful too.

GILBERTOWN, Ala. Services for Lenice O. Nix will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Mrs. Nix, 93, of Quitman, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
Survivors include her sons, Marshall Nix and Affard Earl Nix, both of Quitman, Earnest Nix of Jackson, Ga., Maxie Nix of Silas and Marvin Nix of Griffin, Ga.; a daughter, Opal Nix Bentley of San Diego; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

I have found a copy of an obituary that mentions Maxie Nix. I am hoping some of the names will help you know if this is the person you are trying to research.
