I am very interested in Henty Arthur Nobbs. He was born in May 1865 And entered the US at the age of 23. He list both his parents as being born in England. This coinsides with family oral history of his birth in Western England. I can not find any arrival information, therefore, he may have entered through Canada thanx

Hi Phil

I too am descended fro the Nobbs family and the Isle Of Wight. I have a number of people in my tree from there including Herbert Castell Nobbs and Alfred Nobbs. Then the family moved to Marylebone, London and my grandad was born in 1921. I keep meaning to visit and have a look around. I have joined the IOW society as there are a number of Nobbs there but I never get the time to do enough research as I would like to do. I would intereted to know more and I am happy to share my tree too.

Regards

Sharon Sharpe(nee Nobbs)
I have a work colleague whose mother was born a NOBBS; one of her late paternal relatives was a William Daniel NOBBS who died of wounds in 1915 in WW I in France aged 30, with the rank of Corporal, in the 1st Battalion of the Dorsetshire Regiment; initial reserach indicates that his birth was registered in Lambeth, London in the June quareter of 1885. (A certificate has been applied for).

The record of his death states that the Army noted his home residence as being at Branksome in Dorset, England.

Does this fellow ring any bells with anyone out there,, please?
Re: Nobbs Family

Hello Gunship05

I was very interested to read your message about your great grandfather, Leonard Nobbs, because he was the brother of my great-great grandfather, Mark William Nobbs (1827-1908). This means that my great grandfather Algernon Percy Nobbs (1872-1906) was 1st cousin to your grandfather Joseph Arthur Nobbs.

The reason this is of great interest to me is that over the last twenty-odd years I have been researching the Nobbs family-history and piecing together as much of the family story as possible. So it is particularly interesting to make contact with relations who may be able to add pieces to the jigsaw and who may also like to share my findings. I am currently in the process of refining the large quantity of information I have gathered over the years and putting it together into an proper narrative document.

I have some information about your great grandfather, Leonard Nobbs and was aware he had been in the Grenadier Guards. I have a copy of his Army Service Record which may be of interest to you if you don't already have it. One thing I wasn't aware of was that Leonard had the middle-name of Joseph.

The written records I have on the Nobbs family-history are very extensive. However, old family images are very rare, so I was excited to learn that you had an old glass-plate photograph of Leonard Nobbs in his Grenadier Guards uniform! I must confess I would very much like to see a copy of this image. I have virtually no images of the Nobbs family of this generation so it would be excellent to see what the brother of my great-great grandfather looked like, to give me some indication of how my great-great grandfather may have looked. Also, to give some impression of how their parents, Henry & Sarah Nobbs may have looked.

Are you in contact with any other Nobbs descendants?

I shall look forward to hearing from you and seeing if we can share some information.

Regards
JOSEF NOBBS

Nobbs of Bungay Suffolk

I sm researching the Nobbs family of Bungay, John Nobbs had a son Nicholas Hudson Nobbs who became a page and moved to Yorkshire, near Ripon. He moved on to become butler and married Sarach Wilson in 1866. One of their children was Robert Horace Nobbs born Sicklinghall born about 1866 and became a railway clerk at Ripon. He married Elizabeth Kitson in June 1890 and two months later thier son Frederick Lawrence (Clarence) was born. They separated within months and she moved back to Yorkshire and he moved back to live with his parents. He was there on the 1901 census but then disappeared I cannot find a record of his remarrage or his death. Please can anyone help? Also any more details of this family much appreciated, any descendents of Nicholas Hudson or his siblings for example. thanks

My connection is to the Strangleman surname. I'm trying to link it into my family tree. Sorry, I think I might just be tired, but I don't understand your last response.

I have a William Nobss married to Mary STRANGLEMAN on the 9th of April, 1694. Is this not correct? Or should Mary be replaced with Susan Strangleman? Or perhaps Susan had a sister Mary who married William after she passed away? I hope I'm not adding to the confusion... haha.

Thanks for your help!

I do not know anything about earlier connections, as I haven't managed to trace so far.
There were 2 marriages. One William was married to Mary Ann Brock, another one to Susan Strangleman. Susan and William were married in Methodists Church. William and Mary - I am not sure as I have no certificate yet. My line is Brock one. But Nobbs and Strangleman could well be related as surnams crop up in the same area of Depwade for a long time. One Strangleman was married to Brock, as I can recall. What is your connection?
