Looking for information about a 'Nock's W.House' 1841 census... This could be Warehouse or Workhouse.
The first names listed at this address are James Nock & Hannah Nock. James is described as IND (of independent means). Does this mean he and Hannah owned the place ?.. There are other Nock's within the address too. I know that James died sometime before the 1851 census because Hannah is down as a Widow (83 years old). She has a Mary Purton residing with her described as 'daughter-in-law'- Proprietor of Houses. Hannah's maiden name was Purton; could the description of Mary be a mistake ?
If anyone has any information It would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Simon Paul Nock

Thomas & Abigail Nock family/Mary (Nock) Wentworth

While researching Mary Nock, wife of Thomas Wentworth, I ran into the following puzzle. The 2-volume Wentworth family history by John Wentworth, mayor of Chicago, suggests that Thomas Wentworth's wife Mary Nock was a sister of Rebecca Nock (who married Thomas Wentworth's brother Richard); a third sister, Love, died single. Rebecca is said to be daughter to Thomas Nock of Dover, NH, who died in 1666, but the generations don't work: Mary and Rebecca must have been born after this Thomas' death. (see v.1 p.208)

Another Thomas Nock living in the Dover area has daughters named Rebecca, Mary, and Love, however. He was married to Abigail Brickett, and his children were as follows:
- Hannah (b. 8/9/1714)
- Nathaniel (twin b. 1/26/1717)
- Mary (twin b. 1/26/1717)
- James (b. 8/1/1720)
[All four were baptized together 7/1/1722]
- Mercy (b. 4/4/1723, bapt. 8/4/1723)
- Love (bapt. 10/23/1726)

This information comes from "Collections of the Dover, N.H., Historical Society" here on ancestry.com and from the "Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire".

Here's my question:
Does anyone know if the Thomas Nock married to Abigail Brickett was a son of the Thomas Nock who died in 1666? The latter apparently had a son named Thomas, but the author of the Wentworth history believed that this son died without issue.

Am looking for anyone who could help expand my Family GEDCOM for the above Family Surnames. My direct family line surname is NOCK, which I have traced back to 1585. The above families lived and worked in the Black Country Region mainly centered in the Rowley Regis area and were Chain and Nail Makers. I have found that my GGrandfather "Titus Nock" and a few of his Chainmaking friends were involved with a German scheme to learn how to make Chain back in 1906 and caused quite a stir in the region. I would be happy to hear from anyone with any ties to the above Surnames and would be more than happy to share any info I may have.

Thanks.....Dave in the USA

Hi I am looking for info on John Henry Nock, I have no birth or death dates, He was married to Anna Kemp they had 13 children, and lived on Fox street in the bronx, NY around 1908. My mother was one of the children, she was an identical twin. I believe John Henry was Scottish but may have immigrated from England possibly Manchester prior to 1908. He was either a builder or an engineer. Thank you. Susan Friberg

Looking for information on Stephen Nock, b. abt 1847 and died in November 1908 at 61 years of age. He was married to Mina "Minnie" Schaffer (1860-1930). She died in Cleveland, Ohio.

Stephen and Minnie resided in Cleveland, Ohio and had at least four children: Ida Louise (1887-1977), Florence, Arthur Walter (1890-1954), and Walter Alfred (1892-1964).

I am wondering where Stephen was born -- in Germany or in Ohio?
