Hello,

who can help me?

For a long time I have despaired in search of
Max Nohr,maybe Maximilian Nohr,
born probably in 1892 in Oberwürzbach, Saarland, Germany.

He sailed in 1908 with the "Bülow" from Bremen to USA and indicated on arrival to want PA to Galeton. At that time he was a student.

The last news of him came in 1920 from Sioux city, Iowa.

Probably he was a foreman in an automobile-factory. He wanted to marry a French Canadian.

Unfortunately, any more I do not know about him.

I would be pleased very much if somebody knew a little bit more about him.

Many thanks in advance

Pirmin Nohr

Gosh, I can't recall, but I'll certainly make a note of it now. Thanks!

The name is unique enough, and the families are relatively close geographically, so I imagine they are related.

I often wonder if any of the baptismal sponsors were relatives from Dane (Charlotte, August, Wilhelm, Henrietta, etc.) or vice versa.

Well, time for bed! THanks again, Ellen. Good luck with your search!!

Sorry - mine are from Dane County.

Have you been in touch with Bev Nohr on the Brown County families? I have communicated with her from time to time over the years and we suspect they are probably the same line, but have been unable to prove this.

A gentleman from Canada has done extensive research on the Cross Plains family - they were originally from Bergheim, Germany.

Ellen

I have listed a Johann Heinrich August Nohr, born 27 August 1866 (location not noted), died 12 March 1891 in Wisconsin.

I also located a Maria Nohr who died of cancer on 10 November 1892 (Wisconsin). It was noted at the time she was born on 25 March 1842 (again, location not noted). These are other birthdate I've located, if anyone is searching:

Carolina Rosalina Charlotte Nohr b. 11 May 1857
Friedrich Wilhelm August Nohr b. 11 June 1860
Wilhelm Heinrich Nicholas Nohr b. 10 Sept 1862
August Michael Hermann Nohr b. 23 Oct 1864

Hi Beverly,

Not in Lark, but very near there. The church is in the old Greenleaf township. Some of those names are familiar, but the church isn't the same. I'm guessing I recognize them from neighboring farms, or perhaps names of some of the sponsors for baptisms, (friends) etc.

Sorry for the late response. I guess I wasn't alerted, or I missed the alert, and it has been a while since I checked the boards.

Sorry.
I am interested in your book on the Nohr family though. All my Nohrs decend from Michael Frederick Nohr 1790 Berlin Germany and his wife Christine Ranthum 1792 Prussia. My wife is a Nohr. If your book has any info regarding this line, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Can you tell me where he was from?
There seem to be 3 NOHR families in the US and I feel certain that they connect in Germany, but I'm not sure about this yet.

This NOHR board has been far too quiet!

According to Joseph Gerrath, who has done extensive research in Germany and has been extremely helpful with the NOHR line, my grandfather (William Henry Nohr) was the son of Johan NOHR, b. 7-12-1830 in Kreis Bergheim, Rheinland, Prussia. Johan was the son of Johann NOHR, b. November 1795 and Elizabeth ZENPHENNIG, b. bet. 1801 - 1806.

Johann and Elizabeth NOHR had the following children:
Herman
Leonard
Johan
Wilhelm
Sophia
Jacob
Anna Catharina

Can anyone add to this?

Ellen

Hi All:
I am working on translating an old German (script) church log from Brown County, WI. There are Nohr galore! I am only about 1/3 the way through (and with the holidays approaching, I will be putting aside the translation work for about a month or so) but am happy to share any information if it may help someone in their research. If you have family from that general area in Wisconsin, and think I may be of some help, just let me know. Happy researching!

I don't know much, but here it goes. Simon Nohr would have married Mathilda Pagenkopf which I have found on June 17, 1896 in Clark County, Wisconsin. I don't know how many children they had, but one would have been my grandfather Arthur Noah who was born May 1, 1900. He married Anne Saule (or Saurek) and had nine children. If you could give me any help I would be grateful.

Thank You

My grandmother was Clara Elizabeth Amanda Nohr Struble born in 1891. Her parents were Frederick and Amanda Froemke Nohr, I believe her mother died of TB when Clara was 7 or 8 and later her father married one of her mother's sisters. This was in North Dakota. We just received some information and pictures from my aunt of the Nohr and Froemke families. My Grandma was involved in GEN. research in the 70's, my sister's and I are sorting through it now.

No problem, obviously I have been out of it lately. I don't always get to spend the time on my family history that I would like to. You could find the 1880 census in a number of locations. The place I obtained it was at a local family history center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have these centers all over the US & Canada and should have a copy available on CD and they have computers at the library to view it. I could find a location for you, in your area, if you would like. It is also available on microfiche/film (I can't remember which is which) from the main library in Salt Lake and I believe you can order it for use in one of these libraries. They might be a good place to start if you don't have a lot of info on these people. Also, if you have a paid subscription to this site (ancestry.com) they also have it, I believe. It could be at a public library, in your area, as well. If you would like me to look the next time I go, any information you have would be useful.

I have a little information about Anna B. Nohr, but unfortunately nothing on Edmund Otto. Anna was born 5-8-1868 in Wayside, Brown, Wisconsin. Her father is Herman Edward Gottlieb Nohr (b Sept 1836 - Pommerania, Preussen) and her mother is Henrietta Natzke (b 4-23-1838 - Trieglaff, Pommerania, Prussia; d 9-14-1872. She had several brothers & sisters including Carolina, who is my gg grandmother. I also found, so far, that Anna had at least two children: Alfred & Julia. Please let me know if there is more info that I can provide.
