Nolen family in Eastland Co., TX

My automatic message board popped up with your message. When I saw the great city of Eastland, TX mentioned naturally my curiosity got the best of me. I am related to another set of Nolens that happen to arrive in this same area around 1890. I am look for a James Otis Nolen that shows up: Census: 1910 Justice Precinct 7, Eastland Co., Texas. James was married to Cora L. (UNKNOWN), b. 24 Dec 1887 in Tennessee. They had a son by the name of James W. Nolen, b. abt. 1912 in Texas (probably Eastland). James married a Frances Williard Throop. Frances died in 1972 in Eastland, TX and I have no idea where James past on. They had one daughter named Paula Ann Nolen, b. 20 Jan 1951 in Eastland Co., TX rather late in thier lives. Paula married into my Myers line on my Mother’s side of the family.
Bottom line: Have any of you heard of this family in Eastland, TX and do you have any connections to this family line? My line comes out of Lamar Co., Texas moving to San Saba Co., TX in the late 1880’s, so I don’t have a connection to the Eastland Nolen’s other than marriage and as a distant cousin.

I, too, am researching Stephen Nolen because I think he is my gr.gr. grandfather. If so, his daughter Emily J. is my paternal grandmother's mother. I found Stephen and Eliza Nolen in the 1880 census living in Eastland, Texas with 7 children. My dilemma is that I know my gr. grandmother's name was Emily Nolen. I just haven't been able to tie this particular Emily Nolen to my grandmother. Since you wrote this message 7 years ago, I'm hoping you've made some progress in the meantime and may have info. you can share with me. The part about the wagon train is great. How did you learn about that?
Sharon

I am interested in knowing more about the Sarah E. Her parents were Charles NOLEN and Julia LEDFORD.
Wallace also died young, on 9 March 1952.
Can anyone tell me more about Sarah E.
Ray,

So much good information, just the wrong line for me but I noticed you are researching 3 of the same surnames in my family line.

Do you happen to have any information on a Cornelia Ann Chiles - B: 1820 - VA. Married 1837 in TX. to Israel Pleasant Harris. D: 1875 presumably in TX for I found the family in the TX Census before her death, and her husband living with a Son in TX after her death. I am wanting information on her parents and/or siblings. I have been researching this for 45+ years off and on to no avail.

Any information you could give me would be most appreciated.

You can contact me at Family2tree@yahoo.com.

Thanks so much, Sharron

David "DD" Nolen

I'm looking for info on DD Nolen. He lived in Winston AL. He was married to Mary "Bertha" Jarrell. They had 11 children. We think he had a wife before Bertha and had up to 7 children. I have the 11 names with Bertha, but haven't been able to find anything before the 1930 census on the family. Any help would be great!

I am from the Nolen family in Kingman Indiana. My grandfather was Jesse Houston Nolen, born 2or3 Feb 1898. He married Ruth Marie Jackson of Tangier Indiana. I believe grandpa Jesse was born and grew up in Wallace, Indiana near Kingman. The Nolen family cemetery is in Wallace. I remember going with grandpa to mow it. His brothers were George, Warren and sister Uma.They are buried in Kingman cemetery. This is too close an area for them not to be related to Wilbur Blaine, tho I do not know that name.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I just recently started attempting to trace my roots. I am a Bruster. James and Emaline are my great great great grandparents. This is as far back as I can trace so far. All I know is that they were born in TN. Do you know who their parents were? I am trying to trace as far back as I can with Bruster, so if you know who James H.'s parents were that would really help me. Thanks!

-Sarah (Bruster) Pepper

If anyone else has another pattern/colors please send me the file.

Before the 1600's the family name was O'Nuallain which is why we have all the different spellings today.

BTW, I had a great-grand uncle that migrated from Fannin Co., TX to Ardmore, OK between 1880 and 1900. One of his offspring married a Donald Lewis Wright. Do you have any info on Nolen/Nolan family in south central Oklahoma from 1900 to 1930?

Re: Nolen in Tennessee

Have been researching this now for some time. Today I found I had overlooked something on the 1870 census. One of the children of Stephen and Nancy Tubbs Nolen was Rilly/Billy 10 years of age, a female. For years now I assumed she was a he, but she is a she...smile!! All those times looking at the census I never once noticed she was a she. She is not with Stephen and Nancy in 1880. Only Elizabeth is listed. So, what happened to this little girl?? Elizabeth marries Samuel J Autry in 1881.
I have also recently found mistakes in the spelling of a surname in the marriage records which had me going round and round for a while. But again the marriage records helped to sort of solve this mystery. Calvin Richard Nolen married an Adaline Stains. Thomas Nolen married an Angeline Stane. I thought this to be to coincidental, for these two to maybe be sisters. But Stains, and Stane, and a few other spellings proved to be a challenge to find in the census the parents of these girls. So, I had to search the hard way, census by census, page by page. I found these girls and their family, surname Stier. They are indeed sisters and to top it all off they are 2 in a set of 3. Triplets! It is Adaline, Emiline, and Angeline Stier. Allen B. is their father.
I said all of this to say doing this research is not easy. It takes patience, time, will power, and energy...smile!! The obvious may not be obvious. Records were kept as well as they could be back then. But, when you find that treasure, that one wonderful piece of evidence that pulls it all together, it sure feels good!!!!!!!
