Daniel Nooner (INuner) & Lorenzo Dow Baughan

Looking for any information on Lorenzo Dow Baughan. He appears to have connections in the following counties: Holmes, Monroe, Lowndes, and Chickasaw.

He received a land grant on 27 Feb 1841 for 79.91 acres, reported by the BLM website to be in Monroe and Lowndes counties: Sec. 11, Twp. 16-S, Range 18-W, Parts SW quarter of the SE quarter and SE quarter of the SW quarter. This land was paid for by a Daniel Nuner (aka Nooner), and the rights assigned to Baughan. Have no access to land map showing sections, etc., which would allow placement of this property on modern map.

Daniel Nooner was found in the 1840 census in Chickasaw County. Baughan not yet found in any county in 1840.

Lorenzo D. Baughan was found in Holmes County on 18 Sep 1850. He was age 46, born in VA. Wife was 21, born in MS, and her name in this and the next two census reports was Leveca, Levern, and Louisa E. There was a son named Benton, age 13 (obviously by Lorenzo's previous wife), who is reported as born in MS.

Living with Baughan in 1850 was the family of James B. Glenn, the Glenn and Baughan families having some connection in Virginia. Glenn had arrived within the past year from VA.

By 1860, Benton was not listed and has not been found under that name anywhere. L. D. Baughan and wife were in Holmes County through 1870. No other children shown.

There must be a deed record showing Lorenzo's sale of the land granted in 1841 in either Monroe or Lowndes County.

He appears to have owned land in Holmes. It is not known if he left a will or if he died in Holmes County. If he moved away, the land would have been sold.

Would like to have a response from anyone who has come across any deeds, tax records, estate records or vital records concerning these people.

There also was a Samuel H. Baughan in Holmes County, whose relationship to Lorenzo is unknown.

NOONER - NUNER FAMILIES
NOONER/NUNER FAMILY GENEALOGY:

OUR FAMILY:
We believe that all Nooner and Nuner Families belong to the Nooner/Nuner group. The name has many variations in spelling, possibly because most people in those early years did not read or write. The clerks spelled names phonically as they heard them, in the accents and dialects of immigrants in the new world. The Nooner /Nuner families dates back to around 1700 in the Colony of Maryland. There are earlier families by the name Nooner/Nuner but we have not found documentation to connect them. Many of the early records in Maryland were destroyed making it more difficult to find documents. Many years of research, of dedicated family members has developed information on these families.

We have information to share with you and wish to exchange knowledge of family connections.

Please e-mail us.

Harold Smith
Hsmith1@cwix.com

Re: Nancy Nooner b. 1770-1780, NC, USA

I've ran across these two before. As far as I know we have not been able to find any Indian blood in our family. I'm not to sure where Nancy Nooner fits in. All the Nooners came out of around Dorchester Co. Maryland, we have found them back to the middle late 1600's. Regretfully alot of the records in the 1700's were destroyed in the Indian and English wars of that period. We have some reference to some of these "kin" but don't at this time know the connection. Your two fall into this catagory. Your Nancy did follow the main family Line, Maryland, North Carolina into Tennessee so I am sure she must be of this immediate family. This family were wanderers. Between 1700 and 1840 you could find them from one coast to another and everywhere inbetween. If you are part of the Nooner clan be proud of your heritage as they were some of the earliest settlers and did much in the claiming and taming of this country. By the way the old way of spelling it was Nuner which we have strong beliefs comes the the name DeNune or Denoon both of Argyl Scotland.
Ric
