Hi

I just found this line at Penetanguishene, Simcoe Co; Ontario, Canada.

Joseph Normandin was one of the displaced Voyageur from Drummond Island after the War of 1812.

Fur trader, trapper & voyageur was his line of work.

I think there are 8 children mentioned with Marguerite Solomon on the internet sites I looked up.

-Laremonda
-Lamont
-Normandin

One & the same for this line & so the descendants carry a version of this Normandin name.

If you look up Drummond Island or the fur trade you find the name.

Sorry about not having dates but fur traders didn't always wed their country wives who were often Métis or of Aboriginal descent.

If you do a search of the List of Drummond Island Voyageur you may find more info.

Gilberte

I would like to help but need more info. Please tell us someting about the years and locations of these people. I am particularly interested in the LAREMONDA surname. My NORMANDIN ancestor ended up as LAMONT after moving to Illinois in the 1850's. A number of other NORMANDINs moved to NY and changed to LAMONDAY or LAMONDY or MONTY in the 1840's.

Lamont

I've done more genealogy and now believe that the J1 dna I cary is not of Daniel. It is that of a fenc jumping relative who is not Normandin. I believe now that the J1 I cary is of the Swedish von Fersen family.

I have done a little research and have reason to believe that Jacob was probably, that is, more than likely, a Cagot. The Cagot were probably decendents of the Visagoths and the Goth. My Mothers family came from Gotland and my Fathers family was driven East from Gotland, to the Black Sea,into the Roman Empire, into Southern France and finaly driven north to the Pyrenees. I believe when given the opportunity many Cagot fled France to Quebec and I am a decendent of that flight. My DNA on both sides appears to be Goth although the only match I have so far is in Italy.

The root is Normand and when you add in on the back it means the short Normand. Jacob was a Protestant along with Daniel and is possibly an explanation for Daniel's unpopularity with his peers. I just had the Y dna analyzed and came back with hap group J1 and a rare J1 at that. I would be interested in knowing if any other Normandin male matches. I could be the product of a fence jumper :-)

Thanks.

JonNormandin@aol.com

I have a lot of information on this Normandin family. Contact me at larrydesaire@yahoo.com

NORMANDIN, DANIEL, soldier, court officer, clerk of court, royal notary; b. c. 1660 at Rochefort, France, son of Jacob Normandin and Marie Briant; buried 18 Sept. 1729 at Batiscan.
He arrived in Canada in October 1684 as a soldier in the Marquis de Rompré’s company, but lost no time in replacing the musket by the pen. By 1687, equipped with a portable writing-desk, he was travelling through the countryside on both banks of the St Lawrence River, from Montreal to Batiscan. He was at one and the same time a tabellion, public recorder, reader of letters, and adviser on legal matters. He determined his fees in a somewhat erratic manner, which called down upon him the wrath of his confrères. In his acts he designated himself as “royal notary and tabellion of the King our Sire,” and was active throughout a wide area. In 1715 he tried to establish himself at Montreal, but the local notaries opposed this move, on the grounds that there were enough of them already. Normandin then settled permanently in the region of Trois-Rivières, more particularly at Batiscan, and held simultaneously all the posts necessitating a minimum of legal knowledge.
Normandin had married Louise Hayot in 1687 at Sorel; she bore him five children. By a holograph will dated 6 May 1728, he bequeathed to his daughter Madeleine’s husband, Guillaume Billy, the greater part of his possessions, including “all the minutes and originals of all kinds of contracts and acts owned by me in my capacity of royal notary from my reception of office until the day of my death.”

One of the original NORMANDIN'S in North America was Mathurin NORMANDIN dit-BEAUSOLEIL, a trapper/fur trader who arrived in Cap de la Madeleine, Quebec (New France), Canada about 1658. There is existing research about him on a few genealogy websites but most of them are written in French. Just punch his name into Google or another search engine and you will see a lot of hits.

Here is one: http://www.reseauconseil.com/Pierre-Francoise/normandi.htm

Here is another one: http://mypage.bluewin.ch/a-z/normandin/amerique.htm

Origin of this name?

I am doing some research for a friend that is a Normandie whose family is originally from Canada. (not 100% sure where just yet, but where working on it. ) I am doing ok with the tracking, but was curious if there are any books on this family name? In my own family, the King, Seymour, and Heroux families have already been researched with information and books published about them. This name, Normandie/Normandin does seem kind of common and I was just curious if there was anything like that out there and I just wasn't finding it. I am curious about the origin of the name, though. Any help is appreciated as always.

They were married in ST Hyacinthe 1820 and may have lived in Vermont for awhile. I have records of baptisms for their children in different parishes from 1835 to 1841. She died in Henryville in 1864. I have info about Louis' ancestors if these families are connected.

Louis & Zoe, born Quebec 1820's

I am looking for baptismal records for Louis and Zoe NORMANDIN, children of Louis NORMANDIN and Judith MONTMARQUET who were married in St Hyacinthe in 1820. Louis junior married Lucy CAYER in Henryville in 1843. Zoe married Emery SIMARD in Henryville in 1842. Louis and Judith had daughter Salome baptized in Henryville in 1835 and daughter M. Delphine baptized at St Valentin in 1841. When Judith died in 1864 Louis senior was said to be from St Thomas de Foucault. It is possible Louis and Judith were in Vermont sometime between 1820 and 1835. There are no baptismal records at St Hyacinthe, St Athanase or St Luc. I have pedigree for Louis that goes back to Mathurin, but I am trying to learn about his kids.

Thank you, Nancy. It was the website you listed that recently led me to the NORMANDIN name. I have been in contact with the author of that site, who is a cousin of mine. The connection of Michael LAMONT to Maxime (or Marine) NORMANDIN is based upon a church marriage record from Illinois, 1854. The civil record, however, lists the groom as Michael LEMONT. I am trying to find some other evidence to confirm that these are all names of the same person, and that he is, indeed, the son of Louis NORMANDIN.

Thank you Nancy tu put your attention on my request.

Unfortunately, I do not think it's the good one for 2 reasons: first François was born around 1796 according to the 1870 US census showing him at 74 of age and second, I was able to find the children of François married to Émélie (Camillia) that you mention and there is no François-Xavier...

I have a subscription to a database in Québec showing information about that couple (parents, children and their marriage). Let me know if you need them.

Réal

I've been doing a lot of Nomandin genealogy but I don't recognize that particular Pierre Normandin. Normandin-dit-Beausoleil is most definitely part of my direct line. My great-grandfather was Louis Normandin, son of Francois Normandin-Mathilde Mercure.

My guess is that your Pierre eventually leads back to the union of Jean-Marie Normandin (6/16/1754 - ?) and Marie-Angelique Pion-LaFontaine (2/15/1758 - ?) although I'm not sure which path.

Réal,
I am always interested in confirming (or denying) my information. I do not have access to the reference you mention. I welcome your offer to share some of that data.

I may be emailed directly at grace2u@nycap.rr.com.

Thank you for your generosity.
Nancy N

I located a Francois Normandin in my family tree.
He was born in 1801 in Boucherville, PQ.
Parents:
Joseph Normandin (Nov 1773) and
Genevieve Lacoste dit Languedoc (Dec 1771).

Francois married Camillia Favreau Jan 1827 in Boucherville, PQ. I do not have any info on Camillia's parents.

Francois's father Joseph is son of Antoine, son of Louis, son of Jean Baptiste, son of Mauthrin, who is the first of this Normandin line to arrive from France. Mauthrin's parents were Jean Normandin dit Beausoleil and Marie Desmaison.

I do not have children for Francois X and Camillia. If this list sounds like a convincing connection to your data, I have more details to share. Let me know!
Nancy N
