HI; my name is Julie Hart and I am looking for a John Ray Northam B; 1943 Died 2008 in Tenn. - I was wondering if he was part of your family Tree. I am a relative of his granddaughter Carly Daley. John does have a living sister named Catherine Crayshaw living in Tenn. . Other possible family members could be Vonda M. Northam, Fred Northam, & Shirley Northam. Sarah Northam married John Hopson 1Jan. 704 Colchester, CT

Searching for the proof that Sarah Northam was daughter of Samuel Northam and his wife, Mary Dickinson. Samuel's son, Jonathan, was court appointed guardian of Sarah and John Hopson's children, Mary and John, in 1714 at Colchester.(A Digest of the Early CT Probate Records,
1700-1729,Compiled by Charles William Manwaring, Hartford District, V. II:233.

Samuel Northam died 12 Nov 1726, but no will found.
Sarah (Northam) Hopson died 16 Mar 1708 at Colchester.
Barbour Collection - Colchester:163
Jonathan Northam died 1 May 1761 at Colchester and buried at Ancient Burial Ground.

My grandfather's name was Samuel Northam, and I have heard we had relatives in CT, he died in 1963, but me and my daughter are the last of the Northam's in the Accomack County of Virgina, that I know of

Hi. This is the information I've been able to collect on James Northam:
"James Northam, immigrant ancestor, was born in England. He settled in Connecticut, as early as 1640 (Connecticut Rec. i., p. 45), and at Wethersfield, in September, 1644 (ibid L, p. 110). Other references to him occur under dates of 1648-55-58. He was admitted a freeman in 1658. He was one of the seceders who agreed to leave Connecticut and locate at Hadley, Massachusetts, but he died before 1662."

"NORTHAM, JAMES, Hartford 1655, may have been, 10 yrs. bef. at Wethersfield, freem. 1658, was engag. next yr. with the seceders, who would rem. to Hadley, but he was not able to fulfil his design, and d. bef. 1662. He m. wid. Isabel Catlin, had only Samuel, yet it may be he was by a former w. His wid. rem. to New Jersey, but aft. to Hadley, where she m. Joseph Baldwin. SAMUEL, Hatfield 1674, s. of the

So he may have been born in England, and was probably married before, and his son may also be of that previous marriage. I got these references off the internet so I have no documentation, but maybe it's a starting point for you. Good luck!

George Northam of North Carolina

I have hit a brick wall with George Northam (b. 1764 c. -- d. 1820 c.) of North Carolina.

He was married to a Sarah Powell (b. 1766 c.) and was father of John M. Northam (b. 1802, d. 1898).

Does anyone have any information on the North Carolina Northams? They later moved to Alabama.

I am Kelly's Mom, My name is Rayetta named for my Granddad Ray Northam. Audrey has my home email address. I am a Great Granddaughter of James "Jay" Lindsey Northam and Amanda Pearl Worley. Please feel free to email me. I know very little about my side of the family, they just didn't talk. I was young, no reason to get info on family. There would always be someone Now I realize I'm that someone and I want to know everything that went to the grave with my grandfolk. No, Audrey's husband is a descendant of the sister of Rachel Buckner, John's common law second wife. The cousin I was speaking of is a descendant of John's sister. We have been researching John's ancestral Northam line. I'd like to take this discussion off rootsweb but I have no way to contact you.

Not sure my husband's family connects to this line. His 3rd great grandparents were John C. and Elizabeth Northam. The line continued through their son John W. Northam b. Dec. 1835 and Kissiah Emily Spence. Their son, John W. Northam Jr. b. ca. 1860 married Mary Spence. Their daughter (my husband's grandmother) Virginia Mae Northam b. 1893 married Jefferson Julaney Miller.

Anyway, do you have the address for that web site you mentioned?

Yes, Robert Northam (b. ca. 1673, ENG?; d. 1745, Newport, RI) DID have a brother, Captain John NORTHAM (b. ca. 1678, ENG?; d. 1742, Newport, RI.)

I have not found any details regarding John, so I am hoping that someone can discover the identities of Robert and John's parents in England. Since John was a "Captain", he may have transported NORTHAM family members from England to America.

I would like to know if Robert Northam had a brother that came over from England with him, and may have settled in North Catolina. I can trace my family back to the early 1700's in North Carolina but can not trace them back to England.

I don't know if you are connected to this branch of the Northams or not, but its worth a try. My husband's grandmother was Virginia Mae Northam, b. June 26, 1893 in Accomac Co. In the 1910 Census the family is in the Lee District. Her parents were: John Northam Jr. and Mary Spence. John Northam Jr.s parents were John W. Northam and Kissiah Emily Spence. John W. Northam's parents were John C. Northam b. 1813 and Elizabeth b. 1812; and Kissiah's parents were John Spence and Leah Guy. Any connections?

I have a Frank Northam b. ca. 1873, the son of John W. Northam and Kissah Emily Spence. I don't have any more information on him so I don't know if he is your Edward Frank Northam. Did you find any marriage information on him that maybe listed his parents.

My Thomas Northam was b. 1776 in Accomack Co. VA. and in 1850 census he is in Guilford Co. with wife Elizabeth. But we think she was his second wife. Did you ever receive any information about your Thomas and his marriage to Hannah Swigget? Do you know descendants of your Thomas?
