I recently purchased a CD that included the Bible records of John Meglamre Northcross. It stated that the owner of the Bible was Mrs. Margery Everett. This Bible lists the births of the Children of John and Sarah Northcross as well as the Births of his African Children, Deaths, the marriage date of John & Sarah, their dob's, the Births of the children of Thomas & Hetty Northcross and the ages of Thomas' black children. The dates certainly fit with all the other information I have. Is anyone familiar with this Bible and its authenticity?
I had previously sent a death notice from Tippah Co., Miss. for a J.M. Northcross asking if it could be John Meglamre. Based on these Bible records, I would say that it definitely was about this John and his children. I will include it here and tell you what I know about each child listed.
"Tippah County Death Notices Part III M-R

1) Thomas - b. 12 September 1834 in Alabama. 5th child, 2nd boy of John and Sarah. Don't know who he married. Does anyone out there? He died Oct. 1857 leaving one child.
2) Martha - b. unknown but she would have been the second child and second dau. of John and Sarah. Must have been born before 1830 because they had 2 dau. under 5 listed on census records for that year in Franklin Co., Alabama. She married William Lewis Graham, 25 November 1849 in Tippah Co., Miss. She died June 10, 1853, leaving one child listed above.
3) Mary - b. Oct 13. 1829 Ala? or Va?. Oldest child of John and Sarah. Married as above and had 2 children, listed above. She died Aug. 1856.
4) A.C. Northcross - would have been Alexander Campbell Northcross. Listed in Bible as an "African child".? born Jan. 19, 1847. Apparently living in Tenn. by 1872.
5) Sarah - b. October 26, 1844 in Miss. Listed as both a child of John and Sarah and as an "African" child with the same dob. Name in both instances is Sarah Margery Northcross. She married Hosea Holcombe Ray Dec. 27, 1865 in Tippah Co.,Miss. I have seen that she died in 1933 but have not verified that date.
6) W.S. - would be Walter Scott Northcross - listed in Bible as an "African" child. Dob is June 10, 1852. No other verified information but I believe that Wilson Northcross of the Memphis area is his descendant.
7) James M. - believe this is James Northcross b. Dec. 14, 1830 in Alabama. I have no other record for him.
Other children not listed in this death notice include:
8) Hannah - 4th child, 3rd dau. b. 10 February 1832 in Ala. died April 17, 1851 in Miss.
9) Elizabeth - 6th child, 4th dau. b. 20 January 1837 in Miss., d. 08 August 1854 in Miss.
10) John Marshall - b. July 10, 1839 in Miss, married Fannie (Francis) Narcissa Morton, d. May 6, 1912, buried in Tahoka Cemetery, Lynn Co., Tahoka, Texas along with Fannie and at least 2 of his children. Have lots of additional information on this family.
11) Nelms and
12) Richard both b. Oct. 4, 1841. Nelms' name in the Bible is listed as Northen Nelms. Both died in Bastrop, Texas in 1867. Story is posted.
13) Nathaniel - is listed in the 1850 census, b. 1850,. Must have died young. No other record for him. Note he is not listed in the Bible at all.
The rest are listed as African Children
14) Nelms b. Oct 20, 1839
15)Matt Northcross b. Sept 23, 1849
It would appear that there are mistakes in either the transcription of this Bible record or in the record itself as several children are listed twice, once as a child of John and Sarah and once as an "African" child.
The marriage date of John and Sarah is given as March 8, 1827. Does anyone know anything about this Bible and its authenticity?
